We just got 2 babies today and though they seem alert and well..they are sooo tiny. I weighed and measure them and they are 2g and 3g and 4.25inches and 4 inches. I believe they are about 3 weeks old. They are from a breeder who is moving this week. I imagine that even if these babies were way too little to be sold....they are better off sold than traveling in a move ( 28hr drive to new home).

What is the ideal age/size for babies to be sold?

It seems like forever since I had a baby! Padme is a little over 2 yrs old now. Help me..lol...what should I be doing in particular for a teeny baby?

Thanks guys :)

Over the past 6-8 months I have seen smaller and smaller babies being sold in shops and stores local to me. My first impression is that the economy has taken a turn for the worst and the local breeders are selling their babies sooner to get money faster. Ideally the baby should be no smaller then 6 inches in length. Find the smallest feeder crickets you can find, dust per a reputable schedule ( >> http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html << ) and provide everything else they require. Everything should be fine. The reason babies should not be sold so young is the fact some of them still may die of natural causes. Just keep a keen eye on them and have the realization that something natural may happen. I hope everything goes well and as planned of course. As the odds are in your favor at the age the dragons are currently.

As Beardednoob said, you will need very small crickets. The problem is, many pet stores may have crix that are too large. If they have 1/ 8 inch or 1/4, you will want nothing bigger than that. In other words, a pet store may have a few bins of crickets, but even their " small" may be far too large, and they would cause impaction when eaten. Can you ask your breeder for some from his supply ? He should have given some to you, or told you where to get them. You can always order from one of the many cricket companies....[ I use Ghann's] but depending on the temps. where you live, they may have to be overnighted or they won't survive the trip. But I would check with the breeder first. You'll need a large supply....at least 500 - 1,000 and you don't want to run out. Hope they do welll for you.

You could look into newborn red runner roaches (AKA Turkestan roaches) they are really small, perfect for a teeny baby.

baby dubias are small enough for a new baby. they are smaller than the average roly poly. i am getting a baby that is a month and a half old tomorrow morning (my silkie!) and i am thankful to have a thriving dubia colony to feed out of. i have a ton of little baby roaches.

look up double d's roaches, or phat phibs roaches. you can order a bunch of any size that you need.

thankfully they grow quick-about an inch a week for the first few weeks. lol

good luck!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
