How far away can reptiSUN 10.0 be?

Hey guys, i have a CFL reptiglo 10 right now just for a few days until my reptisun 10 36" tube gets here. Nice to have the CFL as a backup incase the tube ever breaks or burns out.. Question is.. My viv is 4x2x2.. im planning on mountain the strip fixture on the 'ceiling' of the viv.. itll sit down about 2-3 inches to where the tube will fit. So bottom of the viv is roughly 21" from the tube.. will that be suffiecent? There are a bunch of elevate spots and the basking spot is of course elevated aswell.. i think it will be fine but would like to hear some other thoughts. Thaaankkss

Hi,

Ideally, your beardie should be able to get to within 6-8 inches of the ReptiSun 10.0 tube at the basking area. You will want to align the two bulbs in the basking area as such:

0 basking bulb

...so that beardie has benefit of both bulbs while basking, for optimum UVB absorption, and also because the bright light of the basking bulb will guard beardie's eyes from the UVB rays at that close distance.

So as long as the basking spot is elevated to achieve the 6-8 inch UVB basking distance, the rest of the viv can do as it pleases within reason. I would caution that you don't want beardie too close to the UVB tube outside of the basking area as then he/she would not have the bright white light of the basking bulb to guard his/her eyes.

Also, it's great you're getting the proper lighting. I would suggest though, that you not use the CFL at all. They have been known to do more harm than good and if your Reptisun tube was to go out for some reason you're probably better off going without until you get yourself another Reptisun.

Concur. Better no UVB (temporarily), than poor UVB.

The one pet store flaked out on me, its getting pretty frusterating i cant find anyone around here who can order me one in. Looks like ill have to try online.. shipping is always so expensive to canada. So i have that reptiglo in there right now its about 9" from his basking spot.. u really think i should remove it for that long?
