I have been searching and cant find this topic anywhere...
I want to get a roach colony going, but I am curious on how everyone feeds them to their beardies. I read somewhere that one person put them in a bin that the beardie could get into to eat, in the viv... Mine doesnt chase crix often, if at all. He will climb in the cup to eat them.

My other issue is that my beardie often refuses crickets for days at a time. Although, he will never refuse a super (I feed him smalls only). Should I worry that he may refuse roaches? I dont want to do the whole colony thing and have him not eat them...

I appreciate any ideas.

i have a few beardies who arent always in the mood for crix but everytime i offer roaches theyre all over it. i think they get put off by crix if theyre extra active. since roaches are slower and dont jump maybe that helps. our water dragon wont even turn her head for anything but supers but shell gobble up a roach, same with our geckos.

you could always start with a small batch to see. or hell, youre close enough to me if it turns out you cant use em ill buy them off ya.

I've just been feeding my adult male dragon (conrad) the dubia by throwing one or two in at a time as he eats less them 10 anyway.. I have used a unused kitty littler pan for the cricket when I was still feeding crickets.. So, you can use one of those if he don't go for them right away.. but, as everybody says beardies don't hesitate when it comes to roaches.

All of mine have been on roaches from day one... The only time Refused, was during a full shed, or when going down into brumation ;)
Janie.
Oh and with Lady Annebelle's arrival this week, that makes 4 wolfing down roaches ;)

Thanks everyone and congrats Janie on your new lady!

I think I may have over apoiled my boy by hand feeding him the supers. Maybe thats why he refuses the crix. I will try the roaches and see and if His Majesty refuses them, I'll be sending them over your way ThyDemise!

If the roaches are just for feeders do you still need to heat them?

I'm no expert but i would say no.. heater is only for breeding.. providing there don't get so cold they freeze.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
