How do I trim my baby dragon's nails?

My little guy is about 3.5-4 months old and his nails are getting SHARP. I have razor sharp nail clippers that are small for trimming bird's nails. I attempted to trim my boy's but only managed to get 1 foot sorta done before he got so upset with me that he was puffing up.

He hasn't had his nails trimmed before so I know its a new/scary concept for him. The thing is they have to be done...but how to introduce him to it without over stressing? Should I touch/play with his feet more so he's more comfortable with me touching them?

I know only to cut the very tip off to avoid cutting the quick part and can clearly see/cut the tip and know how to do it but getting him to be comfortable with it...is another story. Any tips/ideas?

I use to trim Mystic’s nails either early in the morning or late in the evening, when he’s tired. I just wrap him in a piece of fleece blanket & trim. I also would file the with an Emory board. You could also get a piece of slate tile or some sort of rock that he may be able to file his own down.

honestly, the best way to clip their talons is the natural way: let them grind them down on something.

i keep Agni on slate tile for this very reason. it grind his talons down without the stress of clipping them manually. and it doesn't take very long for it to start working.

if you must clip them yourself, best to take it slow, one talon at a time, and if he appears to get upset, stop and let him calm down a bit before resuming

I use cat / bird claw scissors and never take more than 2 - 3 mm from the end of a nail, I chose a time when the lizard is relaxed during a snuggle and petting session and they are so laid back they don't seem to care or mind .... I guess it comes down how much they trust me and how relaxed and content they are on me.
