How do beardi's like their hiding spots?

Hi, my current set up for my bearded dragon is kind of messy so i am going to change things around inside including furniture. But I've got a couple of questions on how beardi's like their hides...
1.Do they like tighter/squishier kinds of hides or larger/roomier kinds?
2. Do they like it to be totally dark and invisible to us when they go in or do they like a canopy-like hide that they can easily go in and out of (and so bugs don't get hidden inside)?
3. Do they like a hide on the hot side and cold side so if their scared they can still have comfortable temps? (but mine never really seems scared of anyway)

Thanks!

My dragon's hide is on the cool side of the tank and is just a cardboard box. I cut two entrances on 2 adjacent sides. It is just big enough for my dragon to go in and turn around. He took to it immediately and sleeps in it every night.

Mine likes castle I made out of styrofoam, made two doors and a ramp that leads to the top, my little girl sleeps tucked under the ramp :) however some nights I find her tucked in the corner of her tank or between her food dish and castle lol

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
