My goodness, have you ever fed your dragon hornworms?

I would never have bought them, normally, but my bf happened to come across them while at a pet shop in another township (Bills Wonderland of Pets).

So, he bought them... for a pretty penny (which is why, as a normal person, would have never bought them). 18 of them for $21....

Anyway, these things were alright. But Aussie would only eat one, if I was lucky, for the entire day, everyday. He was getting used to them... I still have 6 left. I know they get 10 grams, but they are friggen huuuuge now!! About 4 inches long o__O

Woo, and they make him poo! And they spew juices when he munches on them :puke:

Anyone else try their share of hornworms? haha

lol so the hornworms helps in passing?

Apparently. Never stops running around his cage to find a spot to drop the load o_O
But he is doing well with them. I've always had a problem getting him to go so, I'm relieved that he is going at all.

but the hornworms have run out of food. Better feed them to Aussie faster! Buwahahahahahaha!

Yeah, if the juices from the guts dry, it turns black in color. Wierd from green to black but human blood changes color, too. I LOVE hornworms and so do my pets. I enjoy rearing them (aka raising and breeding). 18 for $21 is pricey for a local pickup. I get mine 25-30 count for $10.95 plus shipping. The hornworms probably pass quicker because they have no exoskeleton. check out http://www.greatlakeshornworm.com for nutritional content. Very good for youru dragons IF they will eat them!

Thank you so much. I would like to start ordering buggies online once my credit card has been approved XD. I wanna try silkworms. Apparently the canned silkies didn't do it for him. Have to start up his salads again. I usually reintroduce salads around January... stupid brumation.
He has been eating the hornworms though. Down to the last 4. He eats like one or two and hes full for the rest of the day... I guess because they are sooooo big o_O

But tell me, because their calcium is so high, I don't have to be loading them with calcium dust correct? I just thought that would be too much then.

For Christmas, I ordered a large variety of worms for my babies. I mainly wanted to try silk worms, but none of my beardies cared for them.

However, they go nuts for hornworms. My little pudgy girl Envy will even dance and jump when I have one out for her.

Well, Aussie didn't like them at first. He would eat one, shake his head around, and turn his head away from another one.

Those pictures are great by the way! Cept my hornworms are about 4x times that size now o_O I have one left, haha.

What is the best way to keep hornworms alive? I think I'll try those out.. they look fun :D and yes, i also LOVE THOSE PICS!! haha!

Usually they are sold in a sort of upside down container, with yogurt on the top of the lid for them to eat. But the container must be tilted or propped to the side for air flow.

I went to a reptile show in Indianapolis last year and bought feeders from a woman who used to work for a silkworm farm (not going to name). She explained that silkworms are so difficult to breed and keep due to bacteria. She explained that you had to handle with gloves and keep everything sterile. Against her advice, I bought some on ebay, about 100. And all were a disgusting dead mess of worms. I have no idea what went wrong during thier two day shipping. I have heard so much negative that I dont want to try them again. Another good treat feeder is waxworms, pheonix worms and butterworms.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
