Homemade incubator questions...

ok, I was just wondering but most the fishtank heaters i can find are preset to 78 degrees, but i know an incubator needs to be warmer, or with the 78 degrees work, also should it be fully submersed, and what subrtrate do you use if say you are having trouble finding vermiculite? sorry if wuestions are repeats but i am very curious and want to be a safe as possible... Also i found one using an aquarium and they say you can use the aquarium lid provided by the manyfacurer? anyone have anything else to add to that?

Jehmco has some inexpensive submersible heaters. Not all heaters are preset to 78. In fact, in 37 years of keeping aquariums, I've only seen one that was and it was a cheap one. Most are adjustable.

I work at a pet store and all but two brands are preset and those two brands do not say fully submersible...

I just checked on Foster and Smith Aquatics and the ONLY heater that was preset was the Tetra ones which I wouldn't recommend to anyone. The Eheim Jager, Azoo, Fluval, Visitherm, ViaAqua, and Hydor are all adjustable and fully submersible.

In my experience, preset = garbage. What brands are available in the pet store you work for? Could you possibly be reading the package incorrectly? Could it possibly say that it comes preset to 78 degrees, but is indeed adjustable?

Topfin, mariene land, fluval, mariana, and a couple more, just can't remember brand names right now... i guess it is possible, but i will have to read the package again...
