Whenever either or both of my adult bearded dragons go outside they act very pissy ill put them out when its a beautiful day once in a blue moon and when i go to check on them they will puff out thier beards and act in like attack mode i dont know if they are stressed becuase they are outside or if they like it so much they dont wanna be moved idk i used to take mine outside all the time when they were young

Mine did that before when i was driving back home with him chillin on my truck seat next to me, his belly started to flair out and so did his beard. i thought he was gonna attack me, i dont know what it was either, but no worries. your arent alone. how old is your beardie?

I'm seeing a lot of posts about beardies who get the chance to hang out some place new (and usually neater than home) who act this way when either it's time to leave or they get placed back in the viv.

That is weird, i know my truck isnt neater than his little habitat that he lives in now, but maybe is becuase he is somewhat happy that he is getting his natural light that is coming from the sun. So maybe its a sign of being happy too? i really have no clue, because when he did it he scared me half to death. haha

I was going to say 'cooler than home', but you have to be careful with that word when talking about reptiles. Beardies are cool.

both of mine do it and they are 3 and four years old i think they like being ouside and dont wanna be moved or something but idk

Mine are also the same age, they dont really act weird when they are outside or anything though, just that one incident when we were in my truck.

Mine both do this. I think it has something to do with them being in a new environment, they feel un-easy and vulnerable. While they may enjoy being outside with the sun shining, they are still wild animals with wild instincts. Theyre instincts are prolly saying "eat or be eaten", and go into survival mode. I know when I try putting my male in a tote outside he instantly puffs out his beard and gets feisty. Yet if I let him sit on my shoulder he is fine and almost seems to feel safe with me on guard... My female doesn't mind the tote outside experience, however I got a lizard leash and let her run about. When I first tried to pick her up she wouldn't let me, puffed out and thrashed about. So I let her back down and roam for a few more minutes. The second time I moved in to pick her up, I moved slow, pet her on her back for a moment before picking her up. Its like she understood the second time that I wasnt goin to harm her and it was okay.

Hi guys,

I'm only new to this site but i've always had beardies! Every beardie i have owned has always got more active in natural sunlight. We always talk about the best type of globes to use for UVB but nothing compares to the real thing. When Beardies go out side and flare their beard, it's more of a teritorial gesture, they try to make themselves look bigger by flaring so any other beardie in there area (which there normally isn't) knows not to mess with them. As for the flaring of his belly i was told once it's their way of absorbing the light and heat! by flattening there bellies it allows more area to heat up and get warm!
