I got this beardie at petsmart today, and so far it's doing well. I thought it to be male at first (mainly because i had a name haha) but after looking at photo's for a few hours and looking through examples of how to sex the creatures at such a young age (well to sex them to a guess, but a high accuracy) i think this one is female. I won't know for some time, however.

I am curious to know if this is normal for a baby beardie? I'm not sure how to tell if the hips are thin or nit, but she seems very fat, but the hip area does not seem as prominent. I would just like to know from you guys about how this looks.

Well i will assume she is healthy. She's active, but i'm just not familiar with these creatures size when they are so tiny lol.

With the proper tank, temp, lighting and if she eats as much as she should now, she should be healthy looking in no time =) With all the beardies that are kept TOGETHER in petsmart and petco, its hard to say she looks as good as she should. But that's just assuming, so.. As long as she is alert and healthy she seems fine :D

They are pretty tiny, huh? :D They grow SO fast, though O_O

This is true; the conditions i found her in were poor, but it's all for the cash at the place i suppose. She's got no spinal show, and that's a good thing at least. This photo was taken after she had eaten about 6 crickets, so she look a lot larger in the stomach region than normal. I think it's the way she was fed (and the way i was feeding her, didn't realize you couldn ot put her crickets in the enclosure, and had to put her into a cricket feed area).

Thanks for the reply. She's actie and alert, but it just seems like she's got a bit of thin areas, and i'd like to fix that haha.

She will do great =) Just feed her as much as she wants to eat during each feeding, she will eat what she can. You can feed her in her enclosure, just be careful about hiding crickets as they come out and nibble on your dragon if shes asleep or not wanting to eat :/ This is why I have dubia roaches, lol.

People here will help if you ever run into any problems =)

she looks fine, what they mean is not to leave crickets in cage after lights out as they will bite dragons while they sleep
I always put veggies in first and after they eat some veggies put in crickets
Before bedtime take out all uneaten crickets

Sounds great! This makes herm uch easier to take care of than i suspected, and that's a good thing :)

Roaches? Wow...i mean i love all types of critters, and even with the bark scorpions i've taken care of...but roaches...lol. I think i'll have to adjust to that, since i want to breed my own food.

What about grass hoppers?

I find this site to be the most helpful site to come to when it comes to beardies, and feeding insects. But I have not come across any posts on here that have to do with grasshoppers. O_O I am sure there are locust breeders and such out there, you will just have to find them :D

Roaches aren't bad, really. Read about them in the feeders section of this site, and you will find that they are amazing O_O I never would have thought I would ever want to hold a cockroach before I came here, but now I am breeding them in my closet, lol. Compared to crickets, they are little angel bugs O_O No smell, no sound, no jumping. That was enough to get me to switch over. xD

if you only have one dragon, at least for me breeding seems a bit much
For what they eat its easy to buy feeders for the week
after a yr they should be eating mostly veggies
i bought a cricket cage its clean and easy, never tried roaches, sounds gross but after these post may ck into it , variety is where its at, also if you have access to a field or ? that you know has not been sprayed with insectisides you can always catch your own :blob5:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
