High Humidity?

I just got my first beardie from petco (They are horrible breeders i know) about a week ago. I am 90% sure it is a she as I have done some research after i got her. She is about 8 inches maybe a little less and im not sure how old she is. I was just wondering what a healthy humidity is.

for reference i live in Louisiana where it can reach high humidity very easily. and what are some options to lower the humididty in cage because in house its an easy 70% at night. I know LA is as far from their natural habitat as possible so i was wondering about some care advice for this situation. And what plants could I get in her viv that she could nible on? I got a small desert succulant from petco but it says its not safe for pets and she would go after it. Thanks!

90% relative humidity long term is an issue.

If you have the viv in a bedroom, you could invest in a small window mounted refrigerative aircon or one of those mobile floor mounted refrigerative airconditioners . You and the dragon will both benefit as they are very effective at removing moisture from the air in the room..

I wouldn't recommend live plants in a viv , they will increase the relative humidity through transpiration.

Hi there, badatnamingthings, the previous poster misread your post. You said it's 70 % at night, but what is it during the day ? 70 % is O.K for part of the time, it gets that high hroughout Australia.


You say you're 90% sure on the gender ? [ That's where the other poster thought you meant 90% was the humidity level ] Post a few pics of her with the tail arched up and I may be able to tell you. Set her down with all 4 feet flat on the ground [ or in your hand] and arch the tail straight up , get a few pics that way. Here's how to post pics :

70% relative humidity is fine so long as it's not all the time.
