Hello! For starters, I have owned an adult BD before these 2. I did not raise him from a hatchling though. I bought adult because after spending hours of researching how take care of one, I was advised to start with an adult first because of how easier it is to properly care for an adult compared to a baby. Sadly after three years, it passed away.
Two years later... now....
I bought 2 baby bearded dragons (unknown morphs) about a week ago from a friend's friend. They are just newly born. They hatched like one or two weeks before i bought them. Before bringing them home, I made sure that the tank they would live in is well setup and temps are right. Brought them home and did not handle them for about a week except to feed and clean parts of the cage that we're dirty. During this week of no handling, i made sure i fed them, or at least tried to every day twice or more. The feeding schedule is usually around 6-7am and 10-11pm. Since i go school, i can only feed them twice with supervision. I also put in a small bowl filled with little dubias in case they get hungry when i'm not around. So far, the amount of food they've eaten during the supervised or unsupervised feeding time was very minimal. I've read information on here that hatchlings/baby BD's would eat a tremendous amount, but mine would only eat like 1-3 dubias while supervised and when i'm not around, usually only 2-3 out of 20 are missing. Some days they don't eat at all!!! This really worries me.
I do have a reptisun 10.0, a basking lamp, and CHE (during the night). These are all timed to go at specific times of the day. Also, I mist them from time to time to hydrate them on top of having a shallow water bowl in their cage.
I have 2 40 gal breeder glass tank, but one is being used to house both the BD's. I figure i would separate them once they've grown or once a sign of aggression begins.
While i'm observing them, I've noticed they are not very active, but i heard they should be. If i try to put my hand near them, they just ignore it. They just sit around in one spot most of the day, which is under the basking lamp or on the cool side of the tank.
As i type this, they are being fed (dusted). Again, they've only eaten 2 little dubias during the 15 min time span i've given them. I gave them more time hoping they would eat more, but they just sat there ignoring it. =(
What should i do?! I don't want them to get sick or die! These little guys are really hard to care for.... i should have just bought an adult..
Now for the pics. And also, i have a successful dubia colony and a superworm colony that is failing miserably.. If you're wondering if i feed my bd supers, i don't. The superworms are for my leopard gecko and when my BD's have grown (16+ in), then and only then would they get a superworm.
The substrate i use for the superworm is wheat bran.
Sorry for the long post!
