Hey there thanks for taking the time, I am a newbie just picked up my first bearded dragon on a whim with my boyfriend because he has had reptiles before and I figured I could learn quickly, and boy did I! lol like how much I should have preped before bringing him home. Regardless I made a commitment and frankly fell in love, name is Rigzilla but we call it rigs, to small to determine gender yet we have had him sense the 7th but I have no clue how old they come from the pet store. I have been reading up on them like crazy and think I have been doing pretty good. We did however unfortunately get a Zilla UVB light fixture before reading about them and the damage they cause, we are getting a new repti sun bulb for that fixture today and have turned that light off, and will order the repti sun fixture too soon. We live in a town with a petco and a fish store with some reptile stuff so we have limited options here. I have read thru numerous forums and even other websites but still have a few questions on lighting, I might ask in the other section but are there certain types of household bulbs you can use for basking bulbs because I read somewhere it cannot be everyday lights or the blue bulbs? Not sure how accurate that is, wanted to ask on here. Also how long can they go without the UVB bulb because Im not sure if they will have it. Is it better to turn the Zilla back on until I get one? Another question I have is for feeding I have just been chopping up different greens and fruits (bugs of course) and frankly am a little lazy for that everyday =P and was reading about the commercial diets, they sound nice but I still want my beardie to eat live bugs I simply want the fruits and veggies from that is that possible? Also just shed for first time and I have given him a bath.
Any help you have or even just a response to my intro will be greatly appreciated! Thank you all and I'm excited to learn more about bearded dragons! I cant figure out how to put pics up but I would if I knew how
