HI, im a new B.D. owner! come and talk to me and Henry!

HI!!! I got a baby beardie on Sept. 20, he was born June 15, 2008! H'e's (was) 6 3/4 in., but now 10 in! and his name is Henry. He's a Sandfire Bearded Dragon. :wink: he's beautiful. if i knew how to post pictures, I shurley would!! He eats about 25-30 crickets a day! he's LOVES lettece, and i give him the correct vitamins everyday. his basking spot is about 99 degrees farinheight, and his cool end of the tank is about 80. i put him on my shoulder when i carry him, and he hangs on and falls asleep. :lol: i also have 2 dogs and a turtle, and my turtle's itty bitty.(i recently got 5 goldfish: Dots, Stripe, Orange Fin, Orange Tail, and Mohawk) i spoil him as much as i can, without going totally broke. (or at least try not to go broke.) he's got (he's crawling up my neck now, and it TICKLES!) a 55 gallon tank, and he is a tank. he's a nice plump guy. he likes being scratched under his chin, and doesnt like to be disturbed when he's sleeping. he'll try to run or jump away.

Henry is a little cutie!

Are you feeding iceberg lettuce? There is little, if any, nutritional value in lettuce for beardies. Try greens (collard, turnip).

what a cutie ! remember when my son got cooper , he was a little tiny thing and well , not so little anymore , miss him being tiny , and i have the bug to get a new one . as for his veggies , i agree , try turnip or mustard greens and oh yes squash a big hit with cooper . welecome to the beardie family

thanx for the advice! i actually bought some kind of N- sumthing lettice. he devoured some of it. I'll try finding some greens. I think I'll try some squash to. thanx! jeez.... im at school i shouldnt be on this! i hope i dont get caught..... :study:

Henry eats about 20 crickets (in just one feeding in the morning) in less than 15 min., now is that too much? now for greens, i give him parsley, N-dive lettuce, peas, apples, juvie beardie food, and carrots. it seems like he doesnt like carrots, apples, and the beardie food stuff, but what other kind of greens can i give him? and i know i should take him to a vet, we have tons of vet places around here, but none of them do reptiles. i live in the u.p. of MI, and there's like nowhere i can take him where i can get him checked!! :x

once my little Henry gets bigger, should i clip his nails? how? is there a special type of clippers, or do i just file them?

Welcome to beardie slavedom! If you have a rough tile floor in his viv you shouldn't need to trim his nails. One slave uses an emory board to give hers a pedicure. Talk about a slave. :whip: I need to do that soon myself.

It still amazes me that kids can go online at school. When I was in HS we built a Tandy PC from Radio Shack. All the programs were on cassettes. It took forever for them to do anything. How far we have come! :lol: Ooops! did I just give away my age? :lol: Don't get caught. Teachers can be harsh, I know I am one.
20 crix is not too much. He should eat that 3x a day for awhile. He may not take to "salads" for a bit. Just keep offering. Bogie loves mustard greens, kale, celantro and clover. Of course if you are in the UP you can't find clover now. Have ya'll had your first snow yet? I lived in Oscoda on the AuSable for 3 years. I have never been so cold in my life. One year we wore sweaters on the 4th of JULY! Brrrr. Gotta say though, It was beautiful up there. I miss canoeing the AuSable.

OMG I'm at school :study: and i shouldnt be on this.... AGAIN!!! our teacher is blabbin away, he wont SHUT UP!!! he takes up half of the class hour talking away, and we have like no time to work otherwise he yells at us and tells us we should be listening and dont be rude. JEEZ! wow i didnt know baby beardies eat THAT much.... it hasn't snowed yet... . although it will in about 1 or 2 weeks..... i HATE winter. its wet and to cold. whats an emory bord? is it just a regular nail file? if it isnt where can i get it?

An emory board is a kind of nail file. I think of the metal ones as "nail files" and the cardboard w/t sandpaper are emory boards. They are much more gentle than the metal ones. Better for little dragon nails.

Did you ever pick a name? You're in Michigan? Not sure of your preference or interest in sports, but "Sparti" or "Wolverine" (but call him Wally!) or..."Chimi" (just a re-shuffle of Michigan, minus the "g-a-n") or..."Mitch" (another twist on Michigan) or...(running out of ideas fast)..."MOKAI" (MasterOfKAItlyn)
