Hello Liviu and welcome to BD.ORG,

I don't think we have anyone on here from Romania... :)
I am going to try and help answer some of your questions.

First let me start by saying that bearded dragons go through what is called relocation stress. When you bring them home sometimes it could take a few weeks for them to adjust to their new surroundings. You also mentioned he is going to lose skin, that is simply called "shedding". Now sometimes when they shed their skin they act a little funny and do not eat as much.

Let's go over your lights and temperatures in your terrarium. I had to find a conversion chart to help me convert celsius to fahrenheit. Your basking spot needs to be between 95-110 F, yours are 42-43 C, which converts to 107-109 F that is perfect !! Cool side needs to be 80-85 F, yours is 27-28 C,which converts to 80-82 F, perfect again !!

What I need to know from you is the type & brand of UVB you are using? Is it a flouresent tube, coil or compact Bulb?
What kind of thermometer are you measuring your temperatures with?
What kind of substrate are you using(what is on the bottom of your terrarium) ?
What else are you feeding your bearded dragon?
When was the last time your bearded dragon went poo?

If you can answer those questions hopefully we can figure out what's wrong with your little guy.

If you don't understand something it's okay just let me know.

Dawn :)

Hi there .....Thank you for your interest in helping me.....Really nobody from Romania? Well I'm the first..... :D So..
lets begin:

1. My terarium is made from PAL..( something like wood) and it 100x50x50 cm
2. I have JBL terra sand as a substrate...
3. I have an Mopani wood as a basking place...( somewhere like 30-35 cm high) and some plate rocks (like river rocks with smooth edges) that are stick toghether with sillicon.( aquarium silicone)
4. I feed him with veggies..( i don;t know the term in english for them) and as meat: mealworms, superworms ( small ones)
5. I have a fluorescnet tube (60cm ) Repiglow 10.0....and a 75W Philips Spot and a exoterra desert heating pad...(that i use night only)
6. I saw that he poo yesterday......and he also eat 11 mealworms and 1 superworm....no veggies...
7. I hava an JBL thermometer and hydormeter...I hope that is showing the correct values...
extra : I have 2 exoterra artificial desert plants: small cactus and finger cactus and I will get this week 2 more plants....
I will put a picture with the terarium but I don't know how...I'll see....
Also if there is anyone that can send me the "Bearded dragon's manual" or something or can ship it to Romania ( i will pay the book + shipping) I will be greatfull.....
Thank you once again.....And please excise my english once again...
Best regards

Hi Liviu,

I have a few suggestions for you.

First of all the UVB light that you are using(Reptiglo 10.0) has been known to cause some health issues with bearded dragons. If there is any way you could get a different light ,it would be beneficial to your dragon. A great uvb light that alot of us here, including myself, use is the Reptisun 10.0. It is a tube light just like the one you have. If they don't have them at a pet store near you, you can order them online at http://www.petmountain.com. I don't know if they ship to Romania, but I don't see why they would not.

Your terrarium is a good size. I don't know if you have your lights on the inside or if they are on top of a screen, but you need to make sure your dragon is 10-12"(27-31cm) from the basking bulb. Your dragon also needs to be 6-8"(16-21cm) from the uvb bulb.

As for your thermometer. I am not familiar with the one you have. Is it a digital thermometer? The thermometers that get the most accurate reading are the digital kind with a wire probe.

Since you have a young bearded dragon, using sand as a subtrate can sometimes lead to impaction. If your dragon accidently ingests enough sand it will build up inside him and he won't be able to go poo. We can rule out the fact that your dragon is not impacted bcause you said he is going poo. To play it safe though you might want to take the sand out of his terrarium. You can use papertowels newspaper, shelf liner(without adhesive) or tile. Alot of us use tile because it is easy to clean. You would want to use a tile with a bit of a rough surface so your dragon can walk on it. The smooth tile is hard for them to get any traction, their little feet slide when they try to walk on it.

Now for your food. It is not reccomended to feed mealworms or supers to a baby beardie due to them causing impaction. The mealworms have a hard shell on them which makes it hard for the babies to digest. The supers are not reccomended for beardies(bearded dragon) under 37 cm long and you said yours was 26cm.
The best thing for your beardie right now would probably be crickets. No larger than the space between your beardies eyes. If you can get those that would be a great feeder, they have alot of protein and that's what your beardie needs right now. The crickets should also be gutloaded. The petstore should sell something that you feed to the crickets it looks like little cubes of gelatin. Gutloading fills the cricket with essential vitamins that your beardie needs. When feeding the crickets to your dragon let him eat as many as he can in a 15 minute period of time. Do this 3 times a day. Let me tell you those little guys can eat alot of crickets, they can eat up to 100 crickets a day  . Make sure you also offer him fresh veggies every day. Sometimes they don't eat them right away, but you still need to offer them daily.

For veggies, dark leafy greens are best. Like collard greens, mustard greens etc... I am going to give you a link to some care sheets that tell you all you need to know about raising a bearded dragon. On the care sheets will be a Food and Water section, there is a place that says Nutrition( I believe it is underlined). Click on that and it will give you a list of foods(veggies) that are good for bearded dragons. Here's the link http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/GeneralCare.html

You really don't need a book on bearded dragons. You can find all of the information you need right on here. You can ask questions. There are so many knowledgable people on this site that are more than willing to offer advice, all you have to do is ask. The other thing is if you look at the top of this page you will see "Care Sheets and Articles". You can click on that and it will take you to different sites with lots of information on caring for your bearded dragon.

As for your beardie not being real active, it could possibly be the uvb light. Not eating and being scared are normal when you first get them due to the relocation stress I mentioned in the previous post.

Try the new light and see if that helps. You should see a noticable difference in his behavior and appetite.

I forgot to mention also that you need to bathe(no soap) your beardie to keep him hydrated. Most beardies don't care to drink water from a bowl, so most of us soak our beardies in water. What you do is fill your sink or a small container with warm water no deeper than your beardies armpits. Put a washcloth in the bottom so he has something to hold on to. Let him soak in the water for 10-15 minutes. If he doesn't drink from the water that's okay, they take in water through their vent( the slit at the base of his tail). Don't be surprised if he goes poo in the water, The warm water stimulates them to go poo. Just dump it and fill it up again. They will usually only poo in it once. Some people bathe their beardies once a day while others do it every few days. It's up to you.

I hope I have helped. If you have any more questions you know where to ask.

Dawn :)

I forgot to mention the undertank heater that you are using is not a good thing. Bearded dragons do not sense heat through their bellies, causing them to get burned if they lay on it too long. If you need extra heat in his enclosure at night you might want to get a ceramic heat emitter. It only gives off heat, no light. The temperature in his enclosure(terrarium) at night should not fall below 60 F(15.5 C).

In case you did not know, bearded dragons need 12-14 hours of light(lights on) and 10-12 hours of night(lights off). They do also like to sleep in total darkness, therefore not needing any lights of any kind at night.

Have a great day :D

Hello Liviu,

The reptiglo 10.0 has been known to cause many health problems to bearded dragons, such as eye problems, lethargy,no appetite. They are just too risky to use.

If you cannot get the Reptisun 10.0 because it is a US bulb, there is a bulb just like the reptisun in the UK called Arcadia D3 12%( I believe that is what it is). Maybe you can possibly get that one.

There is a member on here in the UK, her name is Holly. I am going to get ahold of her and see if she can help you out at all with getting the Arcadia. I'll also see what she does about live feeders. She is much closer to you than I am in the US.

What about locusts? I know many of our UK users swear by them. If no other options are availible, go with the small superworms. Their shells are softer than mealworms. Mealworms used to be considered decent food, but that's not the case anymore. Pinkies should not be fed to a dragon unless it's a gravid female. They're much too fatty and can be a choking hazard.

Hello there,
Everything the girls have said is spot on. I just thought Id offer some advices as another european ^_^
In the UK we use locusts mainly. They look like yellow+black grasshoppers.
I also ship butterworms from online.

Are you struggling to find a good online supplier at the moment?
