Hello we just adopted a Beardie from Petco. The sex is unknown but he/she is very friendly and loves to be carried around, He/she is about 1 foot from nose to tail, currently living in a 20 gallon long tank with lamp and under glass heater. With in a week his/her new home will be set up. I want to put in a few rocks and such have not planed it all out yet. We already have the tank, stand, screen undertank heaters lamps (basking and uv) and dishes. We have had him/her for about 5 hours and already is doing well. Just ate a few mealwarms and was cared by a few of my children.
Now the fun part of naming!!

We have had several reptiles currently and in the past. This is our first Bearded Dragon. I am glad I came upon your group.

What size viv are you getting ready for him? They need a 40L at a min.

What type of UVB do you have because the petstores usually do not have the correct type. You will need a Reptisun 10.0 tube. You get it cheapest at petmountain: http://www.petmountain.com/product/reptile-fluorescent-bulbs/504983/zoo-med-reptisun-10.0-uvb-bulb.html

Also, you really shouldn't use use the undertank heaters since beardies do not sense the heat from their bellies. Just use the basking lights. You will fins a ton of information on here. Just search any question nyou may have!

we are currently feeding him mealworm due to that was his current diet did not want to differ the diet right away as not to shock the system. He also has greens in there with him. Crickets are coming in the morning. I do not know the name of the bulb but it was for our iguana before she passed away it is basking and uva/uvb (cost a pretty penny too). The home he will be going into is a 55 gallon tank which is 48 inches long 13 inches wide.
Currently this tank is holding our fish. We just have to get our larger/taller tank here to switch them out. Well after cleaning of course.
