Hi We just got a bearded dragon about 2 weeks ago, and I absolutely love him. My family and I are really enjoying watching his personality emerge as he becomes used to us, and I have used the care guide a friend gave me from this site to help me learn how to care for our new family member. I am looking forward to being here so I can learn more about proper care for our fella and how to make him happiest.

Thank you very much. I do have some questions because I am even unsure exactly how old he is. He's 14" long, and he has never been fed properly. We had a bit of an issue with him making coughing noises this weekend, but thanks to searches through here we cleared it right up. Sorry I haven't replied as I have only had phone access through the weekend. Mother's Day weekend is always a busy one for me as I have 5 kids.

I'll be searching the forums for feeding and probably asking tons of questions. Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum. Since you said he wasn't always fed well, 14" could be smaller than his age would suggest. My baby girl is 10-11" and I believe she is about 4 months old.
One of the best feeders in my opinion are Phoenix worms-also called reptiworms/calciworms/BSFL-Black soldier fly larva. They have definitely helped my girl grow fast! She was around 6" when I brought her home and that was only a month and half ago.
phoenix worms are soft-bodied, do not carry disease (as opposed to crickets,) contain the perfect ratio of calcium to phosphorus and are one of the highest feeders in calcium period.
Dubia roaches are also a wonderful staple feeder, and you can breed your own colony to feed from.

Thank you! It does help! I'm about to make my first order from mulberry farms. I did find out he's a little over a year old so I don't think he's going to grow much more. I have some Superworms right now,and that's all I have until I get an order in so I'll feed them sparingly. I measured him good today, and he's 15" long.

I'm not comfortable breeding dubias just yet, but maybe that's something I can get into later down the road. I'll order some reptiworms also while I'm making an order. I have silkworm eggs and food in my cart already. I was considering some Reptiworms so that works out great!
