Hi all! We are so happy to have sweet little Hermes in our home. We have decided to keep his name. It's kind of cute to us because the tank that he is in (which Twitch outgrew in 3 months) originally belonged to our daughter's hermit crabs which we called our "hermies." Though my husband says if we find out later that Hermes is a girl he wants to change her name to "Hersheys" which is still cute but sounds the same. I think he knows his name. He turns his head when we say it and doesn't always when we talk. But who knows? :dontknow:
Twitch definitly (know I spelled that wrong) knows her name. And my son calls her Flame and she knows that too. (her full name is "Flame Twitch Hamner lol) Hey Hermes Hamner is cute, right?
Anyway, have a bunch of pics. Had to save up all week for my day off so here goes: Here is Hermes' home. It's presently on a TV tray (don't worry it's sturdy) in our dining area (did I mention we live in a condo?) Our 13 year old daughter wants him/her in her room but we have nixed that (mostly for our selfish reasons, he's our baby not hers! ) . He will move to a quiet corner of our living room as soon as we find a good stand/cabinet.
He's got 2/3 shelf liner and some newspaper in the middle because we were short on shelf liner. But we stocked up so will be changed soon.
Here's a pic of Hermes in the bath. We were psyched he liked it so much because the first time we gave Twitch a bath she acted like we were trying to kill her. Good attestment to the care MaryAnn gives her babies
He laid his head down in the bath and I was worried so gave him a boost.
Hermes is quite the contortionist! He likes to have his face pressed up against things, no other way to describe it. We have found him up on his tail with NO feet touching the ground with his face pressed into the corner of the tank. Sorry we don't have a pic of that but we thought this position was cute... though he did adjust a bit as soon as the camera was brought out, was a little more awkward looking when we got home:
He curls up so cute when he's ready for bed
This is not a very good pic but if you look close you can see he's holding on to his tail
Derrick bought this tree which Hermes LOVES it's like the perfect camouflage for him "you can't see me"
He slept in the tree for the first time last night
:love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: We love Hermes!!!
Twitch will be upset if we leave her out so bonus pic of our big girl!
We don't know her age for sure but she was about 8" long when we got her on 12/1/08 , is now about 17" long, and after our research we believe she is 9-10 months old. Any better guesses? We know for sure that Hermes is 8 months old. But VERY small for his(her?) age. The good news, he's eating very well and shedding (you can see it on his tail in his contortionist pics) so think he'll catch up, some day.
We're going to call Hermes "he" until we're sure. 'Course we did the same with Twitch. Hope she didn't mind lol
