Here come the ALIENS!

Ten days ago my order of supers came in from Great Lakes Hornworms..they were big, fat, and healthy! I selected 33 of "the best" and put them in their containers. Here we are 10 days later and some have morphed into aliens so far we had 2 turn black(dead) and 5 have morphed to the alien phase. This afternoon I noticed a bit of movement and me and my 6 yr old watched one wriggle out of the "worm shell" it was very neat!

We do have ONE beetle right now....he was from the pet store....we morphed that one kinda as a "science" experiment soon enough he will have some mates. We need to set up a separate beetle bin as soon as the rest start coming out...but for now we just threw the one beetle in with the worms

Who else here breeds supers? Where are you in the process?

I've been breeding supers for probably two years now. I am just starting a new colony of them, And mine too have recently turned into aliens, and are soon to be beetles

I will follow along with your progress, maybe I will make a thread too so we can both see our progress?

Just past my 6mo mark all my babies grew up and now have probably 3k. 2k of my own breeding. have probably 50 beetles that should start dieing off soon. Started morphing 36 more at the beginning of the month and have 3 beetles already.

As of tonight..we are up to 7 aliens
AND my hornworms have also turned...today! I checked them last night and they were all spinnnnning like crazy..and today they are chyrsalis's

Darn, nope, just 10 aliens and 3 stubborn superworms lol.

I am only using a couple beetles this time because I have ordered 1k superworms to replenish the gene pool and will start pupating more once my order arrives, hopefully tomorrow.

How long does it take them to go from alien to beetle?

anywhere from 10 days to two weeks or so.

I never really kept track.

Can we see some pics of these aliens please? This is all new to me so I'd love to see what they look like. Are hornworms too big to feed to a 3 month old beardie? I saw them at Repticon and thought they were awesome looking but not sure when it's okay to feed them.

It almost looks like a mini face hugger from the Alien movies... you know, the ones that leap out toward your face with it's arms stretched out? :shock:
