Help with skittish baby beardie?

My little Vala (elvish for "mighty") is quite skittish. We got him about a week ago, a few days after my first baby passed due to parasites. This crushed me, as he and i formed a bond and he loved to sleep on me. My pregnant self took it hard. And now, Vala's skittish behavior is making me sad because i just want to love him. I know all beardies are different but i am a little afraid we arent bonding well.
We have had him about a week now (he is probably 8 weeks, about 7 inches nose to tail), and he has been shedding almost the whole time. He hasn't been moving around much at all and the past couple days he has only eaten his crickets when they come near him or when i offer them to him with tweezers. He just seems very uncomfortable and doesnt want to move much. Now, when i try to pick him up for handling or bath time, he gets very squirmy and runs away and his lil beard gets dark and stuff. He has relaxed in the bath and accepted water drops and kale, but usually tries to escape after about 5-10 mins. And he has thankfully fallen asleep on me when i have brought him out after lights out, after a little squirming and calming. Im hoping hes mostly only skittish because he doesnt want to be held due to his discomfort. Do you think he will become less grumpy/skittish after his shed? And can you give me any pointers on bonding/socializing with a skittish baby beardie?
Some more info:
He has lots of flaky skin coming off on his lil lower belly and some rather thick skin that needs to come off on the base of his tail. His lights, temps, and humidity are all great, and he is healthy. He eats crickets and sometimes kale and is unsure about other things i have offered. I can tell that hes healthy, just uncomfortable, although the thick tail skin has me a little concerned.
Sorry for the long read and thank you so much for any imput!!

Between only being with you for a week and shedding, you would expect him to be skittish. It will probably just take a little time and patience. Make sure you approach him from the front or the side when you go to handle him, not from above or behind (as a predator would), and don't force it if he doesn't seem to want to be handled. Give him some space and try again later.

Bedtime cuddles are a good idea, since he will be sleepy and probably appreciate a warm body to snuggle up to for a while. :love5:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
