I'm pretty positive #1 is a male, almost positive #2 is a male, and I'm unsure about #3, but think it may be a male also.

#1 - 7 weeks 6.5"

I'm pretty positive they're all males. My luck I bought 3 from the same clutch and all turn out to be males lol. I may be giving away one or two of them to a friend and wanted to be positive before doing so. Thanks. :)

Thanks guys. I was pretty sure too. I just thought I'd have one inkling of hope #3 might be a female. Lol. What are the odds I buy 3 from a clutch of 15ish hoping for one female and all turn out males. Ahhhh. :/ lol. I have a 4th from the next clutch, crossing fingers that ones female. If it's a male I'm buying some lottery tickets.

Anyone in Southern Cali wanna trade a nice fat male HT for a female? I'm also looking for Leatherbacks. :)

And if you are going for breeding, you shouldn't inbreed anyways. :p

I'm not sure ill be breeding, but since they will be pets and possible breeders, I wanted to get the sexes right from the beginning (don't want kids too attached yet if they're not 100% keepers) I used to breed Leos for almost 10 years and have always found first generation inbreeding doesn't do harm. I've just started with beardies and done a lot of research and talked with breeders and it looks like the same holds true with beardies. I never inbred past one generation. These guys' parents are not related so this would be the first. Their parents are beautiful and Im not sure, but yes there's a possibility I may breed them in a couple of years to strengthen the nice Hypo line their parents have, and if I do continue, I'll be bringing new blood in afterwards.

I am very knowledgable about most lizards, though Beardies are one I've never had hence my newbie question about sexing... :) Lol. So i thank you guys for helping me on the learning... These guys just seem hard to sex so young! Ahhh. I can sex a Leo shortly after hatch from 3 rooms away, I guess I was just way too used to that.

I don't agree with that and I strongly suggest you don't buy into that thought process either.

There are always other hypos you can buy that didn't come from the same parents as your dragons to breed if you want to.

Are the breeders who said this to you the same who sold you your dragons? Meaning they would have already had 1 (or more....) generation of inbreeding in them.

Not to mention, I don't believe it to be morally right. But that part, is just me.

I'm in what would probably be seen as a herp nerd group in my area, and a few of them are into Beardies, and no the breeder I got these from is not one who has told me that. There are 2 soon to be rep vets in the group, and a herpetologist who's been working with many species for 40 years.

With all due respect (I hate forums btw because of differing opinions and lots just repeating what they've heard rather than experienced.) there are always differing opinions on matters when it comes to animals (with any species) but believe I do, do my due diligence before getting into a new species. The inbreeding was a major concern of mine and yes I have and still do research on the matter, if I ever decide to. I do value everyone's input and opinions whether it is in RL or online.

There will always be debates on calcium intake, mealworms and impaction, lighting, breeding, cohabitation etc... And I'm one to never repeat info given to me, but instead use my own judgment, experiences and knowledge, but do take opinions and input into consideration... So again I do thank you and anyone's input, but what works for one may be different for another so we all have to do what works for us, as long as the animals are kept safe. I don't believe inbreeding 1-2 generations does damage. High end breeders don't do it because they are expected to keep pristine specimens, of course selling for 100s even 1000s of dollars. Small local breeders dont require the same as they are not investing as much nor are expected to. (As long as it doesn't hurt the animal, which again, my opinion and experience is that they don't.) My research includes vets opinions and professionals, not just random people online... So again I do thank you and everyone for your opinion, but lets just agree to disagree. :)

Sometimes, these "random" people online, are much more experienced than these big breeders and vets.

9 times out of 10, someone posts up an experience with a vet here that is quite frankly astounding due to the simple fact that it would seem the vet has absolutely no experience with dragons.

And the same can be said for breeders. You don't really need to know bearded dragons at all to make two opposite sex reptiles want to do the deed. Breeding doesn't make you an expert by far, and being a vet doesn't make you an expert on bearded dragons either.

However, these random people on this site, many of them ARE experts on bearded dragons. They own and have owned bearded dragons for years and over a decade, spend tons of time on this site not only learning from their own experiences, but from others too.

An expert is defined as someone who has prolonged experience through practice or EDUCATION in a particular field. In this case, I would consider learning from others experiences (even if you haven't personally experienced them) to be a very fine example of educating oneself.
Most vets are anything but experts in bearded dragons specifically. Some have a general to decent understanding of them, but again, few and far between.

I agree with you, the best knowledge is your own experience, but there is still tons you can learn from others.

But I digress. I wasn't trying to put any of your friends knowledge down, just trying to show you the other side of the coin and that we aren't really just "random internet people."

You do what you want to do, your dragons, your life, your decisions. I was just giving you my thoughts on it (this is a discussion forum after all... :p )

But remember, you make the choices for these creatures, they don't have a say in it. ALWAYS, make the best choice possible for them, even if it goes against what others have told you, or what you might want.

Agreed. And I seemed to have upset you by my wording. Apologies, I meant nothing by saying random people online. All that was meant is RL people, I have knowledge of who they are, what they do, their age, profession, credibility... Etc, while online I have no idea who is saying what. I find a lot of people online are newbie hobbyists repeating something just because its what they've heard. For instance the mealworm debate with Leos is a good example. While its good to tell newbies (since they have no experience) to not feed mealworms to Leopard Geckos, many experienced owners are able to do it with zero problems, because they have enough experience to know good husbandry and perfect conditions to refrain from impactions (I personally know many high end breeders who feed mealies as 50/50 staples, even though many online are repeating "no that's bad".) While it's great to repeat that to new owners as it helps new owners from making mistakes, it's really misleading overall information... That's all I meant.

And yes, I did say I came here to learn, amongst many other places, in RL and online and all are taken into consideration. So again thank you for your input. Whether or not we agree on one thing does not sway me from believing or agreeing with any other things you say. Your input is appreciated either way.

Oh,

I wasn't really offended but I did seem to misinterpret the meaning behind it, so my apologies.

Agreed. And looking at it from this point of view, I can understand your original comments, and way of looking at us internet people.

Well if you stick around, there is lots of that to go around. And I hope you do, it's always great to get another active member on here contributing or just posting up nice pictures for us to look at. :)

I agree with Brandon. I hope ya stay around! I'd love to hear about your experiences with Leo's and breeding! I have been looking into getting going to vet school and focus on herps, esp Bearded dragons since they are very popular pets!

On the note of this forum. When I came here I had done A LOT of research before we decided to get Boba Fett, the one thing I do wish is that I found this site before I got him. The people here care about bearded dragons, which makes it insanely awesome to ask stupid questions! Someone will always be willing to answer it, even if they answered it a million times before! Even with all the research I did, all the books I read before getting him and I still had issues with his husbandry... :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
