long story short, power went out yesterday around 4pm. Fast forward 7:30 this morning, still no power.
I have 2 beardies and a blue tongued skink (which was just brought home!!) aside from feeling terribly guilty, is there anything i should do? Will they be ok? one of the beardies is just a baby, i gave her a blanket in her tank, and wrapped the tank in a blanket hoping to keep some warmth in. It was 62F in the house this morning. For the larger beardie there is fleece in his tank as well, he was sleeping when i went to check on him.
It's a little warmer in the skink room so i left him be since i know he is stressed anyway.
I'm freaking out :(
Also, when the power DOES come back on, is there anything specific i should do? i'm at work right now, but if it comes back on i'm out of here to check on my babies :(
Thanks for any advice.

Hi there, sorry that you have to deal with this emergency ! A blanket will not warm the reptiles because they can't generate any heat, but a few handwarmers could help BUT....you must wrap those in newspaper + tape it or they will burn any creature that comes in contact with them [ they get up to 150 + degrees ] The temp. of 62 may not harm them at all, [ and will probably get a little warmer as the day goes on ] but is there any way you could get a plastic tote [ from Dollar Store, Walmart, etc ] and just bring the baby to work with a clamp lamp ? You could put the clamp lamp over the edge shining down in, and just a simple rock/log for the baby to sit on. Do you have a friend who lives in an unaffected area that would take them in if this goes on ?

Hopefully the power will be back on soon, but did you leave the lights on ? Just be sure they don't come on when you're not there if there are blankets on the tanks, that would overheat them !

i had to leave for work this morning, i couldn't bring them with me :(
someone has to let me know if the power will come back so i can flip a breaker or something.
I'm sure it will be warmer now, my house does warm up with sunshine and sheldons tank is near a window so he got all the morning sun, i just hope there are no long term effects especially with the baby. when i get home today if it's still off, would a warm bath help?

Thank you.

If the temp was bottoming out at 62 and will increase through the day, I don't think they'll have a problem for a short term. When the power does come back on, I'd just give them plenty of time to bask and warm up. In the wild I'm sure they have to deal with some cloudy days. Think of today as a cool, cloudy day for them.

17oC wont harm them , they'll just sleep.

We had a similar issue here in April when a Tasman Cyclone hit NSW, lost power for 5 days, all electric home, got down to 6oC overnight and even during the day and boy did it rain ! I left the lizards to sleep ,I went into hibernation too, warmest place was in bed under the continential quilt and I essentially stayed there ,couldn't go anywhere as the roads were closed and lots of trees and powerlines had been blown/brought down by the hurricane force winds and the ES were asking people to not use the roads or go rubbernecking, I was only getting out of bed to make toilet runs, and to eat , eventually when the gales subsided and the rain eased, we rescued the little gas camp stove so we could have something warm to eat and drink.

When the power came back on , the heatpads warmed up and the lights came back on, next day the lizards were all back to normal and looking for their diner.

I could have done with some hotwater bottles ( if I had very young skinks or dragons to care for) but all our's are fully grown adults.

Some reptile keepers here have since invested in small petrol generators for such events in the future.

I don't know where the OP is situated, but here in Australia , most homes are all electric, a small minority have gas for hot water and cooking, even fewer have wood heaters, it's very rare to find a house with a fireplace in it. (Used to be common, was usually for burning coal (which is very plentiful here and was the cheap heat source of choice in the early C20 and beforehand , but most of these old homes have long since gone). Electricity is the cheapest source of heat here now, gas is not very popular.

I live in the US,in Southern New England, and it's the opposite here.Heating with electricity is horribly expensive,$.21 per kilowatt hour, and almost every house has either natural gas or oil heat. It's also rare to have a house without a fireplace. It's more common to have electric hot water, but it's still under 50%.

Except in Tasmania and some of the higher places that are inland , we never see snow or blizzards or polar-like climatic conditions here , so our house heating requirements is less demanding in winter than you'll get. For instance here where I am (subtopical north coast of NSW) it rarely gets under 5oC in winter and I've never seen a frost on my lawn .... travel 30km inland and frosts overnight are common , but still fireplaces are very rare unless you are in a very old house).

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
