HELP!! Nee to know how to use probiotic

I found out yesterday that Zoey has pinworms. I ordered probiotic for her from bd.or and I just need to know how to use it. It's powder so I assume I have to add water but do I add it to baby food? Do I use it like the calcium powder? HELP!!!

The panacur will be here in the next few days but she is really out of sorts...sleeping alot, lethargic, etc. I want to get her started on this stuff today as I know panacur is hard on them.

I would say start with a 1/2 tsp, add a drop of water & mix it with babyfood. Then you can add more after she eats the first batch. You can't overdo on probiotics, there are no side effects, just make her tummy feel better. And when you get the meds, always feed her first with the probiotics and then give her the meds, her tummy will feel better. I discovered this when I was giving meds to Gabriel, it really worked. So give that a try, get back to me if there are any questions. I'm going to move this to feeding, see if anyone else has anything to add. What directions are on the package?

Thank you so much Deb! I gave her probably half of that in baby food but she ate very little. Do I need to force feed her this stuff? I don't have the meds yet, just wanted to get her started on this as she feels really crappy. I put her in her viv yesterday and she went to her branch and didnt' move all day. She is eating however (thank god for that!!). She had 67 crickets for her first feeding yesterday, ,second feeding she ate one but only because she opened her yap and I put in there. LOL Today she had around 50 for her first feeding. I'm very happy that she is eating and pooping everyday. She did poop weird colors a couple days ago and it was the day after she had 110 plus crickets. I think I posted it in healt, not sure. I can post it again if you want me to. It made me nervous but next day it was normal again. Weird.

The package it came in was a small baggie and the label just said what it was. No directions. That's why I am so confused. Not to mention I'm so neurotic when it comes to my little one. :roll:

The good thing about probiotics is you can't overdose on the stuff. So I'd give it to her before her cricket feeding, that might be best, then she'll take in more. Try that tomorrow & try again this afternoon. It'll help her little tummy feel better. It really worked on Gabriel.

I wasn't able to get a whole lot in her today as she didn't go for the baby food much...she wanted crickets instead (that's weird in itself as she loves baby food!!!). She did however eat a second meal tonight, first time in 3 days. She did a bit of running around too, yesterday no moving at all. I would take her out and give her the chance to run around before I fed her but all she did was curl up and fall asleep on me. Poor baby. Thanks to the CHE (that thing is a godsend!!!), I keep her around 70-75 at night because I put the CHE on one end of the viv and her on the other, blanket over her to keep it dark. It works out. I will add alot more probiotic tomorrow. Is mixing it with baby food the best way? And just enough food so she gets it in her? Do I force it on her if she doesn't want it? I mean of course I don't want to force anything on her as we have built up so much trust, but I will do what is best for her. I love my little Punkin so much. She thinks that is her name...she answers to it everytime I say it. lol

Mix 1/8 teaspoon into 8 ounces of water or electrolyte solution, give 1 to 3 cc/mL per day for 10 days, while on meds, or during times of stress. Repeat in 2 weeks. Squirt solution into greens to wet or toss a small amount of powder into wet greens. Great for adding to slurries or dust a feeding of bugs.

Don't forget to get a 2oz empty water bottle for mixing!

I got it also,and had to check out the website to see how to use it! Aww maybe she's feeling better?? Good thing about it is that you cannot give to much!

Probiotic? Just found out my little guy has pinworms. The vet didn't say anything about probiotics. Game me the medication and said he gets 0.5 every 3 weeks. He's only about 10-12 weeks old and 11g. Where do I get probiotics? My little guy hasn't eaten anything really in 3 days now. Although I did just try and give him his drop of medication yesterday. I hope he actually got some of it. Hard to get him to take it when he's not eating. And with not eating he's not getting his daily calcium or vitamins. So stressed. Are pinworms a major issue or something that is easily remedied with the right meds?

Both. Unmedicated they can be very dangerous, especially for a little one. With the right medication, they'll be out of his system and he'll be back to himself and eating properly again in no time.

Probiotics aren't essential, but the meds are pretty harsh on their little tummies, and probiotics help replace the good intestinal flora and make them feel a lot better a lot faster. I take probiotics myself from time to time, and it's amazing what a difference they make. Yoghurt has the same good bacteria in (though not in as high quantities), so you could use this instead, but for beardies you need soy yoghurt as they won't tolerate dairy well.

And if your little guy won't eat, try babyfood, you can get chicken babyfood & squash babyfood & mix it together, and put the calcium in the food. That's how I always got my babies to eat when they were upset about something & it always worked. In fact, even though my 5 beardies are all adults, they go off their food once in awhile & I always have babyfood in stock, just in case. So give that a try. I used to mix it up on a small plate, make sure my hands were really clean, put some on a finger & then put the baby on the same finger to lick it off. When they're as small as yours they sometimes won't take it from a syringe, so you can try both ways & see if that helps. The probiotics are great. I always get Benebac, which is a gel that you put on their lips to just lick off. Being so small, just a bit would help your little one. The good thing about probiotics is you can't over do. So give all that a try, it just might work for you. I always order from http://www.bug-de-lite.com. Tracie has good prices & is a moderator on this site, so if you have quesetions you can ask her, she's got better knowledge about beardies than most vets. And no, it's not unusual for a vet to not mention probiotics, most don't know that beardies do well with them.
