I have seen a lot of question like this, and even had a couple of my own. I though it would be good to start a thread about what our dragons have ate, by accident in small portions, and have been just fine. Hopefully this list can then be used a reference in those emergencies.

Emmalee has eaten:

The Roly Poly, aka Pill Bug, aka Wood Bug

Common Mallow

Common House Fly
no picture needed as we all know what those look like.

ohhh AND i have a question ... what would happen IF they ate a honey bee. i know that sounds really dumb, but honey bees are all over the grass on top of clovers, and im really curious!!! because it could so easily happen eeeeeeeeeep!

I'm not sure about that. Honey bees may sting the dragon's mouth and could cause health problems perhaps even death (just like humans.) I fear my Nim will eat wasps, because they can sting multiple times. The number of stings is six until they run out of venom. I know this because a wasp did sting me seven times because it got caught in my pants. That was NOT a pleasant experience I'll tell you that.

Roly polys AKA pill bugs are the same thing and sow bugs AKA wood louse are the same thing. But a sow bug and pill bug are different. How you can tell them apart is, if you pick up a pill bug it will roll into a ball, if you pick up a sow bug it will crawl all over you. (I'm sorry about the correction but I like people to know their bugs.)

Oh and, Nim has eaten.

The common black carpenter ant.

Any small moth. No need for pictures of that.

A northern caddisfly.

I think that's it. Oh, would cockatiel fluff work in this post?

It has happened where bearded dragons have eaten bees and wasps, and there was no harm done. That, of course, is in terms of eating and digesting them (not considering the potential to sting, or any pesticides or parasites they may carry). Not recommended of course, but no apparent harm done if ingested.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of "My beardie ate a bee/wasp" stories and they don't seem to be affected by it.

I don't have anything unusual to post though! Lucky for me, Dudley hasn't actually eaten anything potentially dangerous. If we made a rabbit version of this thread, I would have much more to talk about LOL.

Correction made. However, I believe that eating a sow bug would give the same result, are they not in the same genus?

LOL, I've always knowns those roly poly bugs as potato bugs

Yeah, they have been called that too. I think that they are definitely called different names regionally. Here in BC we call them wood bugs, and our wood bugs, wood louse will roll into a ball if feeling threatened.

Thanks for the posts everyone.

Yes, they are of the same order. And they do look similar. But the suborder is where the two are different. The pill bug is in the suborder Armadillidiidae, and the sow bug is in the suborder of Oniscidea. Don't you just love Latin names? lol. Yes I agree that eating a sow bug would give the same result. I just don't like it when people confuse bugs.

Bugs used to confuse me too. That is why I started to study them. Well, and because I am as crazy for bugs as I am for Nim. Oh, a funfact, do you know that true bugs are the only insect that is an actual bug. The true bugs include, Shield Bugs or Stink Bugs, Assassin Bug or Kissing Bug and others. The way to tell them apart from the other insects is a X on their back. Here is a picture.

I defined the X marking. Here is the bug without the definition.

I call the true bugs X-bugs  You know, like X-men but instead of men its bug. I know, that is how much I love bugs or insects. And Nim also had a wood roach, here is a picture.

I'm done!

Mey has accidently bitten off and swallowed the small plastic end of a syringe, she passed it fine. Yes I looked at her poo every day until I saw it!
Mem has eaten a roly poly a time or two, they are everywhere outside my house and he is entirely too quick for me to get to once he spots one.

Norbert, when he was just a baby, ate a tiny piece of tape and a bit of paper towel. I was feeding him his crickets in his feeder tank, then all of a sudden he turns around and starts attacking a corner where I had taped the paper towel to the tank. Well, he was eating on a plain glass bottom after that! But luckily, he was fine. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
