My bearded dragon is about 3 months old. About two days ago the last inch and a half of his tail started to look dried out and very skinny. Today out in his outdoor cage, it fell off. It was a little bloody, not much. i dabbed triple antibiotic cream on it and turned off his cage lights to make him rest.In the morning i plan on giving him a warm bath then reapplying the ointment, and then letting him rest. I am going to do this until it is healed. Please tell me if this is bad or not a good idea. Also i would like to know if there is any way to decrease his pain or help it heal faster. Thanks!

Hello! Sorry to hear about your dragons tail. If I were you, I would do a bit of research on Tail Rot. From what I have read, it matches your situation, and is pretty serious. I'm not very knowledgeable on it though, so searching the topic might warrant better results. Pictures will also help us to diagnose.

As for the treatment, I would definitely keep his lights on his normal schedule. Not sure about the cream.

Thanks. Its an open wound right now, and I am pretty sure it isnt tail rot. I think it is a retained shed.

Get some betadine and make a solution of it and water to look like weak tea, soak the tail in it for 20 mins or so. Then apply a triple antibiotic ointment to the tail tip. If the beardie has an open wound remove anything like sand if you are using it, you want to keep the wound as clean as possible. If her basking rock or log is rough cover it in a wash cloth so the wound isnt snagged on it. If its retained shed that caused it, then it could quite possibly be tail rot. Your beardie needs a vet to make sure there is no underlying infection in the tail. Im not a vet but I am going through this with my own beardie right now from an injury to his tail although his is now healing quite nicely with a vets help, betadine soaks and antibiotic cream.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
