Hi. I rescued 2 bearded dragons and have been told I need to get a second set-up. Money wise I can't afford to do the exact same set-up so one will have to have the MVL and one will have the the lamp and the ultraviolet tube fixture. Is the MVL a healthier choice for the sick on or does it not matter? Also, I really need to get different thermometers. Right now I have the metal stick ons at each end. I guess I'm going to go to walmart and look. Does anyone have a good brand name and place where they got theirs? I have a blackberry so I'll be looking for answers!! I want to order one on-line called the temp gun but I don't want to wait for it!!

Thank you to everyone and I am SO very thankful I found you all!

At Wal-Mart, usually with the smoke detectors, they have a nice probe thermometer for usually around $12. I know there are some pics posted of it on this site, I will see if I can find one for you.

Thank you, very much, Jiffy. I am about to go shopping for that and the second set up I was told I need :banghead: . 3rd day of this today. I am going to get him to take more of the Fluker's Rescue Aide. I NEED to see a lot more improvement because this is killing me!!

Randi the MVB (mercury vapor bulb) simulates the natural sun better than any other bulb. The MVB is used in many clinical settings for beardies. But let me mention that the PowerSun 100watt MVB may be experiencing some issues right now...I'd stay clear of that one for now. The best MVB is the megaray...I use the Exo-terra Solar Glo which is in close comparison to the megaray.

I wanted to mention that the T-Rex is also another very good MVB and it was also designed by Bob, the man that designed the Megaray. You can get a T-Rex here: http://www.petmountain.com/product/reptile-heat-bulbs/503619/t-rex-active-uv-heat-flood-spot-lamps.html

Here's a picture of the AcuRite digital with probe that Walmart has for about $12.00.

Wow. Thanks for the picture, Diane. That really helps. Hopefully, in the next day or so I'll actually be able to breath and go get it!
Thanks again,
Randi

You're welcome Randi. Is there anyone available that could get it for you sooner? Would you like instructions now on just how to use it?

Thank you, Diane. No, there's nobody I can ask to go. Hopefully I'll get a chance tomorrow and actually, I am curious about something with the way it works. I know it was said that it needs to be in an area for apprx 45 min to get a good reading? Well, if it need to hang directly into the basking area, what do you hang it from to keep it in the right position for so long? :?
Thanks so much for offering youe help on this!!

Randi the probe will need to be placed directly on the basking spot (not just in the basking area). The basking spot should be 14 inches from the MVB. You will probably need to attach it in some way to make it more perminate. One of the reasons I like the infrared temp gun as it gives you an instant reading with no wires.

Edit: At this time sense they are so weak I suggest a really low basking spot like a flat rock.

Hello Randi,

I would definitely recommend either the Megaray or the T-rex active UV heat either one for your one that is most ill, & the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube for your less ill one, unless you can afford 2 bulbs. Now the Solar Glo is a good bulb also & you could probably afford both of them to have one of them. That way you only have to have one main light in each tank.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
