Help: Hard Breathing Reflex

I will try to explain best I can and check for answers.Always comm. with me being happy or unhappy by his breathing.He lite puff's with his chin or belly,doing since 6 month old and now 1 year 8 months.Two days ago he started this hard breathing with his belly like he was reflexing from something hard and fast with dipple on left side.He does come out alot but as not fallen or taken any bumps,that was my first thought.It scaring me,he seems to do it like once every 2 to 3 hr. and last cuople min.,when out and does it I rub belly and talk to him and it stops but see dipple on left side which then seems to go away about 5 to 10 min. later ?He does like to comm. with me like bobby's his head up down pretty hard or run around little crazy when want's to come out.Hope it may be new way comm. with me but I don't think so.Note eat outside tank so no issue with bedding.

I don't know if did'nt notice before but while resting with me as I pet his back gets slow twitch in stomach area similar to hard and fast reflexing happening in stomach.

Can you give us some info on your set up, such as temps, uv bulb, substrates and about his diet.

Info. on set-up: 40 gallon breeder tank with ex-terra 3 foot 30 watt 10.0 floorcent tube,100 watt halgon for basking,75 watt for extra heat need be for day(getting colder now) and to keep temp. over 75 at night(does sometimes sleep in my room on heating pad,I watch temp.).Run lights on 14 hr. day and keep temp. in basking area around 102 degee's but seems to like 90 to 95 so keep two basking in spot so has choice.Bedding is cal.sand,first time trying and hate dust,note does not eat in tank so ingesting bedding not issue.Try to keep diet short,this was resue thru family member.It 1 year and 8 month old male,got him at appox. year old.At about 8 months it stop moving and eating and person took to told give alot cal.d'3 power in baby food,it did not tell them to get floorcent UV light,had only incandent for heat.It only was really keeping it alive so they ask me if I would take.I tryed for over 3 months feeding it live insects and fresh veg. to only throw it out so stop.So twice day feed,one with baby food-mix in two veg. like carrots and greenbeans and two fruits like banana and peach, all four equal parts like teaspoon each with pinch cal.d'3 power and add 1/2 teaspoon protien power(not eating any insect's) and 1/2 teaspoon flaxseed meal and bottled water(stop drinking water also)so get liquid in him,note I can gauge amount water to add,if to much goes bathroom to soon after feeding,regular goes once day in morning and about 2 times week at night.Second feeding give fresh veg.(sometimes mix with frozen) and friut like carrot,peas,stringbeans,green&orange, peppers,corn,frozen green soybeans(forget how spell name)always apple likes alot,mango,cantolope loves juice mix in baby food,strawberry,etc..With baby food use dropper and fresh hand feed.Him know when feeding time cause I put on lap he knows(sometimes when near feeding start flapping mouth open for food,still try once in while but not in tank).Just press up against lips dropper and likes it.With fresh need firm so hold up to mouth(try green's but after maybe one bite got force which don't like to do).Have handle amounts and when had enough walks off lap and if don't like something he split's out(or not fresh enough spits-didn't realize once baby food little old but still good).Sorry so long justtrying giveall facts.

Okay, Scott... I think I got the picture.. One, remove the glo ( as that is what I suspect it is) and replace with a reptisun 10.0 tube. Here's a handy link for you

Now... so you are hand feeding baby food to this 20 month old dragon, yes ?
Have you tried taking him out into the sun shine on a bright day ? Have you noticed any reactions ? Also, bathing regularly can help out, as with him avoiding the higher temped basking areas, he might be a bit on the dehydrated side. A bath is : water to shoulders(arm pits) temps baby warm or 90-100*F, for around 15 minutes, supervising totally the whole time. Also by supporting his body with your hand or leaving a soft wash cloth under his claws for traction helps should he become a bit antsy. I would suggest bathing on a daily basis, for now. I would also suggest most highly, finding a qualified herp vet to have a look see. What he might be experiencing is a variety of things. If that is indeed a reptiglo 10.0 he could have the beginnings of metabolic bone disease, as well as parasites, and dehydration. All these are controllable if not reversible, but action needs to happen quickly. By starting out with the baths, that is one step you certainly can do. Getting him into a 'qualified' vet for examination is another. I would really appreciate if you kept posting, even if you are worried about any new developments. Share them. We are here to help out.

Just caught this reply and late but thankful for help.So busy doing this about 2hr. past taking care of him.Feed once in morning around 9:00 and 10:00 at night,then everyday warm bath(does not seem to mind).Always splash water around little and drip over his mouth,once week may drink alittle.Cause aware not drinking water in tank make sure it getting by adding bottle water to baby food so loose(if put to much goes to soon)and giving fresh high moist. veg. and fruit.I don't think water but anything possible,on hotter dryer days give by spoon water or juice squeeze from fresh friut by spoon.Run Ex-Terra 10.0,why swicth to repitsun,know some are better than other but close,and when got first thing did cause had no floorcent got this asap at petland,have few more month's before 6 month peroid then study which to buy next(have info. from site but need to study more) but he got healthly from this lamp.

Been trying to figure out,but does seem to be doing less.Something did happen.Been on Beautiful Dragons,great link thru here studying food chart.I do feed fronzen,but don't think enough for lack B1,but it descripts sort what doing.Feeding food with Moderate oxalates OK ,just not high ?.Goitrogens stay away completely or small amounts OK.Banana high in phosphorus,stay away or small amounts OK.Peach have goitrogens so ask again(just got peach baby food first time 2wk. ago cause out mango and wanted orange color friut-been small amounts beleive).I know no Spinach,and see Collard Greens good but Mustard Greens no good,citrus in small amounts OK if read right.It good read for people here,I thought I know alot about food but this help's connents thing's for Breadie's.

First now been day and has not happen again(and little dent in left side seem to gone).Per B1 only give frozen soybeans and peas and green beens,everything else fresh or baby food.On Beautiful Dragons it list soybeans canned as goitrogens,I give again frozen.He been eating frozen soybean's(forget how spell name but green color one's that start with E) since I got him,which is last 8 or 9 months.I included this everyday in diet since got(eat's about 2 to 3 day-each is bite)since had to feed by hand and it was to stressful to feed cricket's or superworms(lg. mealworms) by hand to him(I can now)and need some protein in diet and cause so heathly great choice.I don't think it's soy but will stop it if I should.As mentioned store was out mango baby food so got peach which has goitrogens,that I stop at once since timing is close but would like to know like soy,also flaxseed meal not on list,as wrote earier add 1/2 teaspoon to 4 teaspoon baby food and bottled water.Something happen bad,and even if pass's hope does not leave something behind which happens.Hope to figure out to prevent again if can.

just something i noticed in your 2nd to last post. You feed him at 9-10 at Night? when do you turn lights out? Is he getting 2 hours of basking time after eating? just wondering if he's able to digest fully and that might be an issue as well.

Per my work have to feed late.After feed at 10:00 at night somtimes will go back under light for said time or have on heating pad with me outside(wrap small towel around it and monitor temp.)to keep warm for digesting.Do this for 1 to 2 hr. so get time out and spend time with him.Believe as long as warm enough digest right so heat can be from basking or heating pad.

Thinking now maybe combo. frozen soybeans and peach baby food going by chart on Beautiful Dragons found here mentioned in early post.Like to have feedback on foods mentioned on above writing's.
