I just got back from the vet and its not good. Gizmo has a tumor, they think on her ovary which has been growing since she mature but escellate with this last batch of eggs she laid. We are trying hormone therapy to shrink the tumor so that they can go in and remove it. If the vet goes in on Friday and determines that it is too bad, they will put her to sleep so she won't suffer.

Gizmo had touched my heart, as well as our male, Gir, in such a way that I thought I would never like a reptile but these guys are great. My vet said they will do a foot impression for us with her name on it as a keepsake.

Hope for the best in this trying time.

Hello,

Oh sorry to hear that! :( I feel terrible, poor Gizmo.
What hormone are they giving to shrink the tumor? Shouldn't they give it a few weeks though, to see if it will shrink it down?
If it is just attached to the ovary, it should be able to be easily removed. They could do a hysterectomy which would remove everything so she wouldn't lay anymore eggs.
I hope things go well. Please keep us posted on her.
You & Gizmo will be in my thoughts.

The vet gave us 3 hormones to give her. The mass is too large to risk surgery at this time (also the cost factor). We are giving her until Friday because of the "hormone cocktail" they hope it shrinks. If it starts, i will probably continue for a week. Positive thoughts, since Gizmo is my 13 year old son's lizard and I had to break the news to him this afternoon.

Hoping for the best!

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers for Gizmo. We will see by Friday if (hope) the therapy works. We decided that if the therapy shows signs of working, we will ask the vet if we can continue for a week or two to see if we can shrink it even more. Hope for the best. My son is devastated about it.

Gir seems to be affected too. He won't eat. He sits and stares at her. They are in separate tanks but can see each other, so I think he knows something is up. Gizmo is a trooper! She takes her meds well and seems content. She doesn't seem to have much of an appetite but I think that is the hormones! Hope.

Please keep Gizmo in your thoughts and I will keep you updated.

Gizmo has been on predinzole and Estrasole for 4 days. Friday, I decided to give her one week to see if the steroids and hormones will shrink the tumor which it has in 4 days. She is happy and well loved and seems to be getting better. The tumer hopefully will shrink a lot by next Friday and we will reevaluate her at that time. It was a family decision to continue with the hormones/steroids to see what they will do to the tumor. So far, it looks great. Keep your fingers crossed it shrinks more. Maybe by next Friday, we will continue the hormones/steroids for another week, and so on. The vet seems very hopefull. As long as she isn't in any pain and suffering, I am happy!!!! :D

She is perky and eating like a pig right now. She is spoiled!!! being hand fed so she doesn't have to struggle to get off her basking rock, what a life!! being fed crickets and superworms!!!

I have never had an animal have a tumor, thank God, but I can imagine how it feels because I had a sick animal that had gotten some sort of poisoning and was going to be put to sleep if she didn't get better. She didn't. I begged, 'one more week, just one!" And on the last day of the second week, she got better and after therapy lived a relatively normal life before a horrible, painful, and untimely death. < This may not be true, she may have died peacefully, but i dont think so. But that was from an animal killing her. (she was a chicken an I loved her so much)

Either way, have faith and Gizmo can get better!

Her tumor has shrunk about 2MM which has releaved pressure on her back leg... She has been using the back right leg a little and seems to be perky. Dr. Brian (our vet) said to check back in a week to see how we are progressing and re-evaluate at that time. So, it seems to be helping. We will see on Friday and go from there.

She is so spoiled!

That is great news about Gizmo's tumor shrinking. :D

You must be so happy and I'm sure Gizmo is as well, with less pressure from the tumor.

Hello,

WOW that is super news to hear~! :blob5:
Great that she has regained some movement in her right back leg too, I am sure Gizmo is happy about that. Let us know how the vet visit goes on friday. I bet your vet is a little bit surprised she has improved, but pleasantly though.

I am happy for you & for Gizmo.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
