Hey, So i had two beardies (Larry and Toad) they have been together since the day they were born and they loved eachother. Ive never seen them angry or had any problems with eachother. A few days ago Larry got an impaction from a big cricket and i tried baithing him and helping him through it doing all the correct steps but he didnt make it:( on the last day i made a seperate little spot for Larry in the cage because he was very bloated and not responsive and Toad was laying right next to it because he knew something wasnt right. So after Larry passed i took Toad out this morning and he charged and tried to bite me. He has NEVER done anything like this before. Ive had him out for a few hours now calming him and he seems content now and i can hold him. But he has been quite dark and not eating ever since. What can i do to help him? Ive been showing him a lot of affection and trying to feed him but he just seems weak:( any help goes a long ways. Thanks!

Btw hes a juvie about 8 months old. Is it possible for him to interact with another beardie so well? Is it an option for him to share a cage with another his age?

No, they are not social creatures. What they had was very rare and I wouldn't be surprised if there was troubles you didn't catch onto.

Oh alright, I would always hold them and they would lick eachother all the time and were always very content and happy but now Toad has been very dark hiding all the time. Is there anything I can do to make him more active or not so stressed? I feel terrible about what happened so if theres anything I can do let me know. Im going to the pet store today and getting him more stuff for his tank and probably switching his paper towels to wheat bran. Is there anything specific beardies like to interact with? Thanks for the response!

When Puff was taken away by us to treated by the vet and never came back , died in recovery and never woke up , Rex and Wiggles both noticed he was gone and kept going to his tank to look for him , the two bluetongues looked for him too.

Rex and Puff were siblings and he was a bit over 2 years when he died.

I do think Rex was missing Puff and she became very clingy as did the other pet lizards, maybe they were picking on how upset I was as Puff was very special and had always been super affectionate and real people lizard.
Then a couple of months later Wriggles (who was very old and showing it by developing geriactric lizard problems) passed away in her sleep.... and Rex was upset by her passing away too. (Or maybe she was picking up on my sadness again).

This clinginess lasted for several weeks.

All you can do is give more cuddles and treats and floor time .

I am sorry for your losses:( thank you for sharing your experience though it helps! I have been taking him out for hours longer now and trying to feed him berries and what not, he's doing a bit better today but he doesn't really move around much. Hopefully he recovers soon from this! Is the anything i can do to make him more active? When he runs he's more of a slug instead of holding himself up? Is that Normal? Thanks again i really appreciate it!!

Also did you ever have the beardies out together to play or did you keep them seperated in the tanks all the time?

Hello,

You are doing all you can to help him through things.
Though a lot will say they don't really feel loss, I have to say that I disagree with that. While it may not be what we humans call "emotion" they do know when the other is gone. Whether they can feel that their spirit or soul isn't there, I don't know, but some react more strongly than others. I think that they also pick up on our emotions, also.
They don't like change which could account for some of the emotional response too.
I have witnessed on a few occasions, after losing one, the other would just stare around, looking for the other one, even making rounds around the tank looking. This went on actually for a couple of months.
You can have them out together to socialize, if they are similar in size but always supervise them to see how they do. It is a very individual thing. It doesn't always work out but a lot of times it does.
Housing together though isn't usually recommended, they tend to do much better alone.
I hope he is doing better soon.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
