HELP? Beardie eating but sleeping all day too???

My Beardie who is about 4 months old, 10 inches from nose to end of tail has been so tired lately I am worried. He is still eating and pooping, but I have noticed that although his poop is formed that there is also a lot of waterey stuff also. I just noticed that spinach is a no no and we feed him horn worms, pheonix worms, baby super worms, butter worms and spring mix (daily) which has loads of baby spinach in it. so now I am wondering if he has been overloaded with vitamin A since it was on the Oxalic Acid Content list???? and what DO I DO NOW TO WAKE HIM UP FROM IT????? I was feeding him another salad mix but he seemed to like this one so much better and would gobble it up as fast as I would put it in his bowl, I switched to it about a week ago. That is when I started noticing the looser bowel movements, but spinach will do that too ya :lol: , but about 2 days ago is when he started getting sleepy and just laying down on the felt all day or in his hammock sleeping all day. LOL he will even keep one eye closed while he is in the sink while bathing..He is a character I tell ya, but I do not want anything to happen to my buddy so please give me suggestions or comments please.

Diane, could you tell us what type of UVB light you have and how old it is also how are the temps and how are you measuring them! I would recommended giving him a few baths a week! Also the loose stool could be a sign of being very well hydrated! Another thing is if you are dusting with any vitamins I would stop for a week but keep doing the calcium! Just my 2 cents and good luck...

The UVB is a 26 watt 10.0 compact repti glo by exo terra that I bought when I got him so it is also about 4 months old. The temps have been measuring the same since day 1 67-75 degrees on cool side and 93-105 on hot side. Today he is still eating and pooping, the poop is still formed, but like I said under it there is a big watery puddle also and he is still very sleepy. I did not feed any spinach today just pheonix worms. The bulbs distance from him...if he is on the floor is 13 inches..if he is on his perch 6 inches...ummm what else oh I am using the stick on kind I know I need to get one with the probe to measure better and did order 2, but when they came they were the same as the one I already had LOL i mistook the tail of the beardie as being the probe in the picture online.. Any more suggestions please I am so worried???????

I wanted you to know that I added the hammock to his tank the day before this all started and am wondering if this is the culprit? Since he seems a little weary of it he doesn't climb as high up as normal on his perch I have been finding what seems to be undigested worms in his stool also, but he has no lumps and no throwing up, no color change...Please someone answer

repti glo has been known to cause problems with beardies most likely the reppti glo is your problem. get a repti sun 10.0

I also just found out that my son has been feeding him WAX worms not knowing they are suppost to be as treats he has been giving him like 50 at a time thinking they were feeders. would that make him sick????

Ozie went through a period where he was very sleepy and lethargic, although still eating and pooping. I changed my UV to the Arcadia 12%, the one recommened outside US (Reptisun's equivalent) and the change was virtually immediate and very eyeopening. He has now got much more life and is more active around his viv. I also believe that the compact type uv has been known to cause health problems and is not recommended at all. The tube style Reptisun 10 would be a good choice and my advice would be to try changing your current uv to this one.

This could be that he isn't getting warm enough to digest his food properly. You thermometer could be up to 20degrees out - bad luck for ordering the wrong type of thermometer - that's so annoying when that happens isn't it Again my advice would be to try and get a probe type and check that his temps are high enough. You could try taking the hammock out if you feel this is stopping him from basking properly.

I don't know the answer to your question bout the waxworms as I don't feed them, but hopefully someone else will chip in and help you out on this too.

thank you so much, I guess I have been taking too good care of him according to what the expert says lol. I thank you so much. I did take out the hammock also. He actually seems better today, I think I will just wait on the hammock until his new tank gets here. I guess I will also be going thru this again when he gets put into his new tank huh? oh well will deal with that when it comes. He is actually very sweet that is why I got so nervous because he never turns black or puffs.
