Help Ball Python won't eat!

No not really,but you know how everyone says ball pythons are finicky eaters? Well I guess mine didn't get the memo haha! When I bought him he was feeding on live so I fed him live the first time, then I started feeding f/t and he's still eating like a champ! I'm so happy! :lol:

Congrats. Sometimes they can be very finicky. We carry them at work and feed f/t. Most of the time it's fine but we had one who refused to eat. When the department finally told me it had been a couple of weeks. I fed it live once and once the feeding response was active again it starting eating regularly.

You really did luck out When we got Ballz we tried every trick in the book for almost 7 months to get him to eat f\t. Finally I was so mad at myself for IMO starving him that I went and got him a med rat and TADA he ate. Never again will I force a snake to go outside of its nature with food. Except the kingsnake shes not allowed to eat other snakes :silent:

Congrats!! That's awesome. My first BP was such a pain in the you-know-where. A total sweetheart, but a nightmare when it came to feeding. During her first winter with me, she went on a 4-month fast. Being in good health, she was at no risk--breeding season fasts aren't uncommon or unhealthy--but she was my first snake and I totally freaked out. Anyways, I was lucky when she would take live, much less f/t. Fortunately, I have managed to convert her, although it took 16 months.

Wow I'm so glad mine has taking on much better eating habits than most! I never would have thought I would be so happy about a snake eating lol!

All my bps eat just fine once a week, unless they are shedding although one or two have been know to eat while completely blue. :roll:

Wow, that's something! Even my blood python, the biggest pig in the world, doesn't eat when he's blue.

Both of mine have eten just pre shed. It suprised the heck out of me too.

I also had good luck with my ball. I got frozen fuzzies to feed when I first got him. Well, after 3 months, he is much bigger but I still have the fuzzies so I have to give him 3 at a feeding. He strikes at each one with equal enthusiasm.

I went to a local "reptile and avian" show to get some frozen mice. I was so disappointed. There was only one reptile vendor and he didn't have any mice left. He said he brought 400 and hardly even got in the door with them. I had to go to PetSmart to get some.

Their beardies looked good with an appropriate setup, but the balls were 3 in one tank with no hides, about 20% humidity (if you can believe the stick on hygrometer) and stuck sheds.

I'm glad you had good luck wth yours and F/T, Mine refused to eat anythng but live ever.

Even 6 months of starving it wouldn't eat a f/t when offered and I just had to take to feeding it live. The risks of feeding one live prey are over exagerated, but you really should feed one f/t if they will eat it.
