Hi. Lately I've been looking around for a pet to get, and I've decided that I'm probably going to get a bearded dragon. I have some questions and was wondering if someone here could answer them.
1.When are bearded dragons most active?
2.How much would it cost to get everything set up for he bearded dragon, such as buying all of the lights and food, etc...
3.Are bearded dragons handleable.
4.What are the basic things that I would need before getting a bearded dragon. (Such as a place to put it and its habitat.)
That's all for now, I'm hoping that someone will be able to answer some of these questions.

Hi and welcome! Bearded dragons are awesome pets, they are really friendly and affectionate, and very interesting to watch too. I'll have a go at answering your questions:

1.When are bearded dragons most active? they are most active during the day, and more so during the summer months than in winter.
2.How much would it cost to get everything set up for he bearded dragon, such as buying all of the lights and food, etc... including the dragon, enclosure, lights, thermometer... i'd budget for around $400. But I'm in Australia, prices might be different in other places.
3.Are bearded dragons handleable. Yes, they're known to be pretty much the most easily tamed lizard. Most beardies enjoy being handled and spending time with their human.
4.What are the basic things that I would need before getting a bearded dragon. (Such as a place to put it and its habitat.) IF you're getting a baby bearded dragon, you will need at least a 20 gallon tank/enclosure to house it in. You'll need at UVB light, a heat lamp, a thermometer to monitor the temperatures in the enclosure (preferably a digital probe thermometer or a temp gun), food and water dishes, some furniture for the enclosure such as branches and rocks, food for the dragon, reptile calcium supplement powder and reptile multivitamin powder. That's everything I can think of off the top of my head... I'm sure others will be in to add things to this.

Good luck! :D

Welcome! It is good you are researching before getting the dragon. It helps to have the set up right the first time (spend less money on getting things you don't need) ;)

I have another question, what would be the best thing to put on the floor of the habitat? I've heard that sand is a very bad idea.

You can use tile, reptile carpet, or just paper towels, sand is bad for babies, but my adult does pretty good on it, I'd stick with other stuff though. A beardie will steal your heart and you'll love them forever!

I actually went on craigslist.com and found Inanna and all his stuff for under $200. It was great, I bought him without my parent's help!

Thank you for the craigslist idea, I found someone that may give me everything I need plus a dragon for 150 dollars.

Another question, how large will the bearded dragon grow to, and exactly how big will its cage need to be? I'm not sure if a 40 gallon aquarium would fit on my dresser, and my mom says if it can't fit there then I can't get one :(.

What is the width of the dresser?

Adult dragons can get between 18-24" in length. You would want the enclosure to be at least wide enough for the dragon to turn around comfortabley. If the tank is wider than the dresser, you may be able to put a board (maybe plywood) on top of it before putting the tank.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
