I just wanted to say Hello. I am new to BD.org. I don't have a beardy yet but will soon just like to do all my research first. I am thinking of starting a roach colony first and then get a Dragon after it is going well. Do you think that's a good idea and also how long do you think it will take for the colony to get big enough for feeding if i started with say 150 dubia's. Thanks for your time and any replies.

Hello and welcome! I was in the same boat as you in the beginning of May, and I'm happy to say I'm getting my first beardie on Tuesday! Anyway, I always thought about starting the roach colony early, and it makes sense because by the time you got the beardie you'd already have roaches. For a roach colony to really establish it takes around 5-6 months (or so I hear, I breed crickets). But once it starts it's pretty much an unlimited supply of roaches, and you will probably have to sell the excess. Anyway, if you look for roaches a good place to buy is from TheRoachGuy, his site is http://www.theroachguy.com. Tell me how everything goes!

Hello! I think that sounds like a great idea, not only can you start a colony of roaches, but in the mean time, you can study alot about bearded dragons and taking care of them!

You could always start your colony and in the meantime feed crix. They are wicked cheap online unlike dubias.
