Hello everyone. Some of you may already know a little about me, I have posted on the er forum. I got our very first beardie back in late november. I bought him for my son's 8th birthday. This is the first I have ever had to anything to do with reptiles. I have had cats, dogs and a lot of birds and rabbits but never a reptile. I actually like the little guy maybe more than my son does. I am very gratefull to the people on this site, you all are a great bunch. I plan to stick around and learn as much about these amazing little lizards as I can. Now I just have to figure out what kind of pet to get my daughter her 5th birthday is coming up and she says she needs a pet too. My 6 year old is autistic and has a black lab as a service dog(sort of we trained her). She wants a cat or hamster. I don't really want the work of either one, plus I worry the dog may not like either one well.

i dont know if she likes reptiles or anything, if she does, id say another beardie or perhaps a ball python, my sister haves one, theyre cute, friendly, oly eat once a week, and you can carry it around the house because it just wraps around your arm :lol:

Hey Sara, I'm the same, I bought our lizard for "my son" but as us Mum's know most of the work lands on us! I love Komode and would be soooo upset if something happened to him (he's only 7 wks old) but I usually don't attach to animals that quickly! Maybe I AM a reptile person afterall!! We've done the guinea pig / rabbit thing and I get bored with them - I love the unusual pets that not everyone has. My son's last pet was a bright blue yabbie and all his school friends loved it when we took him into class and showed off his shell when he shed. Now they think he's so lucky and cool to have a lizard! We were going to get an axolotl to replace him when he died but I wanted something more "interactive". Good luck! :lol:

I'm with you, I didn't think I would be a reptile fan but I love Fred. He is so friendly and docile. I think we are going to get a cockatiel for my daughter. I have had them in the past when I was a kid and I know I can take care of one of them. Plus I can put the cage up high where my autistic son can't get to it. I personally like birds my husband is not thrilled with it. I asked the vet and he suggested another dog or a gerbil. I don't want either one of them. I definately do not want another dog. One in our apartment is enough. So starts the search for a bird. I did research on where to get the beardie and what all I needed for it long before I got him. I am hoping to find a local breeder and not have to go to a pet store. I have a pet store in mind if I need to. well thanks for the input guys.
