I found this forum while researching bearded dragons. My husband's boss has his two grandchildren living with him and they were neglecting their dragons. His boss was taking fine care of them, but it wasn't really his thing. After deciding that we were informed and capable of caring for them, we brought the two beardies (Spike and Thorny) home.
At pet store the next day, we discovered that our poor beardies should be in tanks at least double the size they were in. It was kindly suggested that we keep that in the back of our minds and not to feel too badly as we just adopted them and had no idea.
Of course, ignorance is no excuse and I wanted our new pets to be happy...but the prices at the store were quite steep (they were in 20 gallon tanks so we looked at 40 gallon tanks). I figured I would try Craigslist and found a nice 40 gallon tank...complete with substrate, lighting/heating, food, decor...and a bearded dragon! Lol! So we went from zero to three beardies in a one week span.
After that, I was fortunate to find a sale on two tanks ($40 each instead of $90-120!) and I'm happy to say that they all seem very happy in their new home(s)! Thorny is especially thrilled with his new digs. He was quite an angry individual before, but now he is quite pleasant indeed!
Anyway, thanks for this great bearded dragon forum. I'll be hanging out here...probably a lot!
Oh...and the Craigslist beardie's name? Tina. Our daughter's name is Tina! Obviously this was all meant to be!
