Hello - newbie here!

I am not terribly new to the reptile world, but pretty new to the beardie world. Actually, so new that my little one is still sitting at the shop waiting for me to get my next paycheck :lol:

I just figured I would introduce myself before I was noticed as a lurker. :mrgreen:

My name is Whitney (or kiara- doesn't really matter too much what I'm called), and I have a whole slew of pets already... a Lab who is 4 named Raine, a Mastiff mix who is 2 named Max, a 9 year old cat named Tigress, an 8 month old kitten named Bandit, 2 bettas (Shadow and Pan), 4 platies named Lock, Shock, Barrell, and Sally, and an African Dwarf Frog named Jack (along with a ghost shrimp named Oogie Boogie- notice a pattern?). I have been keeping fish for about 5 years. I *had* a banded gecko, except he found a way out of his tank and became a midnight snack for Max... which ruined my summer, but he was my first addicting taste to reptiles. My youngest sister actually breeds beardies though, and it was her convinced me I wanted one.

Once I get pictures, I will post them.. but like I said... s/he's still at the store =)

Can't wait to see pics. I was the same when getting rexie, seen her last november but it was late december before i got her. Hope you get yours soon!

If I get the bonus from work I am expecting, I will have him/her by next week-- otherwise it'll be after I am able to buy the last few things I need for his/her tank.

I do have one question though- I have read that they need to be able to come within 8 inches of their UVB light- if that's the case, a strip light wouldn't work, would it? How exactly would I be able to make it so they can get that close to their light?

In my viv i have a log that goes up to a corner opposite the uvb, it's were rexie tends to lye a lot and sleep. I no petshops do wood for vivs or you can get it on ebay, to that if they want to they can climb up on to it. But i have a cover round the heat lamp, which by boyfriend actually made for wire he got from a hardware shop it saved me a lot of money. Were are you from?

We got the wood our self which also saved me a lot of money. That way when you do have spare cash you can get new things.

I have read quite a few posts showing just how addicting they are. Lucky for me, I have developed an immunity (maybe I can call it that) to the cuteness I see around me... that and we're living in a temporary place until the economy gets a bit better and we're able to move back to Florida... who can say what will happen then though =)

Well, I have not only decided on a name for my new beardie- BUT since we had a bit more money left over from our tax return that we'd originally planned, I am going to pick him/her up tomorrow. I will post an introduction probably tomorrow.

we live in the uk and were totally new to reptiles not so long ago! you will already have a good head start with your beardie with already owning reptiles.we now have 8 beardies with two more coming on tuesday! feeding time is very busy! if you want to have a look at a very good caresheet have a look on http://www.hadesdragons.co.uk/caresheet.html.this is the one we looked at when we got our first beardie.good luck with your beardie.
