Hey,
Im Shiv and am from UK.
My boyfriend has always kept reptiles.. but I was VERY unsure and never really thought of them before..much more of a mammal type girl. But after holding a crested gecko for first time I was smitten. Unfortunately they turned out not to be for me..I struggled after watching my tiny gecko struggle with MBD and eventually die. I did everything I could and took her to a herp vet..but it was all too much for such a young gecko... and i vowed never again.....until I held my first bearded dragon. I went into my local reptile shop and the lady let me hold a beardie that was only a few weeks old..and it looked up with its little golden eyes and i melted.
Now I have two of my own..and they are my babies! I kiss them in the morning when i turn their uv/lamp on..and at night i tuck them into their hammock and give them a kiss again lol. I will never stray away from beardies!!

OMG! They are Adorable! Nice choice. Others have felt the same way, I for one, am one of them. When I saw my baby Izzy, I died. Oh yeah, this may sound weird coming from a boy, but I kiss mine as well. I love her like a daughter, She's my Izzy! I love beardies! After all, I'm getting a master's degree in herptology. Hi and Welcome. You're not a Batman fan or anything are you? :wink: They're cuties. I just hope they don't cause you too much mischief with those names.

As for the slamonella issue, I personally don't kiss my beardie, or put him surfaces I eat off of, but from what I understand, the risk of getting it from your lizard is about the same as the risk of getting it from the food you eat.

aye well I have read all about it.. and I clean my hands after holding them, never put them on surfaces I eat off..and I dont slip them the tongue and my boyfriend kisses all his geckos..and he has alot O.O (that sounds filthy) and hes fine...i think. lol so oh well if we get it..we get it together... i think your pretty much ok as long as your not sucking on its tail. lol

batman is awesome!! I think at this rate I shall have all the characters...and they are definately living up to their names!

I think its fine to kiss your beardie and sometimes i have even forgot to wash my hands after handling him, but as long as i am not touching his poo then putting my hands in my mouth, I'm not going to worry about it :lol:

I havent been on for ages. not that i forgot u guys, just life and its stresses!!!!

The beardies are still good.. getting bigger and Joker is now a fully fledged, black bearded beast!!!!!!!!! Harley-quinn is catching up and is adorable... I dunno if you read my other posts but I thought I would have to sepearate them as I bought a male and a female baby...but they are STILL together and getting along great. I guess its not all true about having to seperate them when theyre little!

so yeah, ill update with some pics of my babies.

Oh Yeah!!!!! I am starting a refuge for unwanted beardies in the UK. I have to do something, I keep seeing ads with people getting rid of them and I would give them a best a home as any... well I`ll take as many as I can afford. We went from breeding geckos..keeping 40 geckos at any time..and now I have none. just my beardies....so I got monies to spend on them. If anyone has any little gorgeous babies looking for a good home. let me know UK peoples. I am based in south london.
