hello from me and Hugo

Hello

Thought we would introduce ourselves.
My name is Leey and my baby is Hugo. I also have two chihuahua babies, Gordy and Nyuschka.

Hugo is about 2.5 months old and I have had him for about 5 days. And boy am i attached.
He is quite the eater, he can wolf down crickets and salad like nothing i have ever seen, lol.
He is also quite a character and i can spend hours staring at him and just watch him basking.

I am curious, he is very skittish when i handle him and i am so scared that he is going to jump outta my hands and dissappear. but i am sure that I have to get him used to being handled.
Am I starting too young? Should I wait til he is a bit older and bigger? or am i doing the right thing?

Hi and welcome!

I was the same way when I first got Buddah about a month ago. You just have to keep handling Hugo and he will come around. When he starts trying to squirm out of your hand dont immedietly put him down wait about 20 seconds after he is calm. If you put him down right away he will assume squirm=freedom. Hope that helps a little.

i think you're doing great. kaida was nervous the first few days i had her, but over the last few weeks she grows happier to see me every day. keep up that handling time, Hugo will grow to love the affection. oh yeah, congratulations on your new beardie.

Chimera was the same way at first too. He was a jumper and had to be watched at all times, cause he did want his freedom and tried for it every chance he got, took him about 2 weeks to settle down

yes, since i have been handling Hugo more he seems more relaxed when i want to handle him.
Perserverence is the key.
I am taking everyone's advice and handling him more often and for longer periods.
