Im a newbie here and just got my baby yesterday. I've wanted a beardie (long time) since I saw one on a shoulder of a clerk in a cool store. Don't have a name yet still thinking of one that will fit. I went and got whole set up at petland (20gal., sand, water, food dishes, uvb light, night/day light, calcium supp., baby food, bought some -cricket's, fake hanging plant (silk), habitat hut, sm. wood log. I think that's all.
I am excited to learn from all of you (and make some friends).
I want to know if i need to get heated rock/pad right a way or can i buy on line n wait couple of day's to get.
Wish i could send pic. Maybe later time. I AM SOOO EXCITED

Hello. Don't worry about a heat rock. They can cause very bad burns. Pick up multi vitamins instead. No sand please. The baby will get impacted. Paper towel and tile are much safer and easier to clean. 20gal is ok for now but you'll want to upgrade to a min of a 40gal soon. This is a great place to make friends. We all just help each other. How and what do i do if impacted? How many crikets should i put in or put him in different cage to eat?

I am glad you will be switching to tile, its my favorite substrate option!

No you don't need to drop everything your doing to get tile if its going to be a burden for you to get it. Just get it whenever you can.

As far as impaction goes, I wouldn't worry just yet. If it does happen, you can give a warm bath and a tummy massage. I'd also check out the ER section. Again, too early to worrie. As for the crickets, just feed until baby gets full, up to 3 times a day. Just make sure to take out the extra so they don't bite the little one in his sleep. You'll do fine. It takes awhile before you see what a bunch of 'Duh's' pet store staff can be. :wink:

Thank you soooo much for all the help because the pet store did say the sand from zoo med was ok to use.
I'm going tom. and get some tile.
Hubby picking up stuff that i paid for at the pet store (cricket's and cricket keeper). The funny thing is
he doesn't know what he's picking up and I didn't tell him I got one. I allways tell him "ya knew I was an animal lover when you married me". Can't wait for him to come home, he be home in 1hr. The shock will be great but after he holds him he'll be fine. He knew i wanted to get one for a while now, I only have 4 leg'd kids. 2 ferrets, 2 dog's, 90gal. tropical fish tank, and, a beta tank. What's one more to the family right?.

I found a name.... Ziggy. My husband and i love it, he was first shoked at him cause i didnt tell him. It took about 10min and he fell in love with him. He has been researching him for two days now and wants to do everything he needs for Ziggy.
I got rid of the sand and put down tile, he seems to be ok with it. He keeps looking at me to take him out its so funny. Thank all of you for the education you have given me, I will keep listening to all you have I want to give him a safe loving life.

I bought my ziggy at petland on sat n he s so small. He s bout 3-4in.
Is this size normal? Is there anything special to do for a little tiny guy? I'm start n to think they took from mom to early because others r so much bigger.
