Hello Newbie here...just got new baby boy Ozzy.
He is about 9.5inches from nose to tail tip. and I think around 12-14weeks old.
My 9 yr old wanted a snake, but I was worried about how fast they grow how hard they would be for children to handle when bigger and have heard they tend to be escape artists so when it is 4-6ft long I was not looking forward to it squeezing my poor old cat, or my young one...or my little guy Gizzy (****zu)...I know crazy thinking would not likely happen but...paranoid momma I guess...
So we have been researching reptiles for months about 6months...I always loved snakes and lizzards when I was young, but mom would never let me have anything reptillian or rodent...she was tirified.
With our research and frequent visits to the local pet store, and talking to the reptile guy at the pet store, we desided Beardies were ideal for us.
Our family consists of animal lovers, 1 mom, 1 dad, 3 girls, 2 labradors (Daisy & Shelby) 1 Gizzy (****zu), and 2 fluffy princess kitties (old one - Krissy & young one Princess Pashmina)...and Now New Baby Boy Beardie Ozzy...My child chose that name...should really be spelt Aussie I guess...but harder for kids to spell... And mom and Dad are Ozzy Osbourn fans...hehehe!...She desided this was a good name 'cause they are native to Austrailia...I thought this was pretty smart for a 9yr old...she must have paid some attention to what she was reading...
So just wanted to say Hello and also thanks...as the first few days we had him I was scared he was not eating after he ate a very larg cricket and took a few days to pass it...he was stressed and just not feeling well...but he is seemingly good now...eating dusted crickets no greens so much...and we got another UVB light strip for over by his basking area...He sleeps more than I thought he would ...but I guess he seems fine when he is up...had a decent poop yesterday more firm like a regular poo...lets hope today brings the same.
So thanks for the advise and the reassurance.
