Hey everyone! So long no see.
Seriously though, it has been a looong time since I was last on this site chatting with all you lovely peoples. And to be honest I kinda miss you all. I blame college. Not only has it taken me away from my beloved beardie for more time than would like, it has also kept me away from all of you!
But, as I am back now that I have graduated, I will not only be more active around here but also in Spyke's life! Unfortunately while I was gone, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer :( (we also got cats, but that's not so unfortunate and has actually been a huge help with mom). With this being the case the care of Spyke while I was away was not as tip top as would have liked. He was still fed and given water but the care of his terrarium took a definite hit. Despite my lengthy letter about how to care for him, my dad made some rookie beardie mistakes. He bought that vita-cal sand substrate crap as he felt that it was easier to clean than the green reptile carpet I had him on. No worries I have scraped all of that and put in tile which IMO is the easiest to clean and won't make him sick. But in addition to the change in substrate, my dad also never cleaned his various logs and food dishes. So I threw them out and have been using plates temporarily because I've decided to give Spyke a fun update to his home (aka completely renovate it) and would like some suggestions as to what to get for him/it. I've been surfing around here and decided that I definitely want to get him a hammock of some sort as he had grown out of the one I had previously had for him. I also want to get things for him to climb on as he has an old snake terrarium that is approx. 100gal, 4 ft wide, 1 ft deep, and about 3 ft tall, so I have tons of space to work with and want him to have access to as much of it as possible. Keeping in mind that I am recently graduated/still a broke college student, any ides on what to get for him?

TL;DR I want to renovate/update Spyke's terrarium. Any suggestions on what to get/put in it?

Thanks for any/all of your suggestions. I appreciate it and know that Spyke will too.

While you think of ideas, enjoy some updated photos of this ham.

Callie is always quite intrigued by Spyke but also usually keeps her distance. lol

This is probably my favorite. I have a yellow case on my phone and Spyke's favorite treat is banana. The rest speaks for itself. haha

It's understandable that sometimes family doesn't know how to best take care of our special friends/pets. I have to explain things constantly to my in laws about lizard care. They don't understand that their uvb bulbs need to be replaced every 6 months. To them if the light bulb still works it still works. Since my partner got a job care for the lizards has fallen on me, i'm not as diligent as my partner when it comes to cleaning, but i do try.

Hi there.....I think that Spike [ and you ] would appreciate some freebies, and here are my suggestions. :) Just collect nice branches + logs [ drift wood is great if you can find it ] and get pieces that can fit in your oven. If they are too large, just cut them to fit in the oven. Of course you want to get any obvious dirt [ if any ] off first. Preheat the oven to about 225 and pop the logs in for about an hour, making sure that the wood doesn't touch any of the heat elements. You can also collect a nice large rock or two....just soak them in hot water, soap + vinegar [ some people use 5% bleach instead of the other] and then rinse very well with hot water. There you go for free, naturalistic cage furniture. :)

Freebies are always wonderful! I did that with the log he had before. And it is a genius idea. I don't know why I didn't think of it. :/
But the rocks thing I did not know.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
