Hello all! I know that it is common for beardies to vent while basking, but my baby has been breathing with a wide mouth even when he is out of the light. He is around four month old I would say, he is a cutie =) and my best friend! I made a youtube of his breathing, this is him under a light but he is also doing this with out the light.

Things that are different in his life within the last week are

* meal worms were fed
* larger tank was given to me 20 gallons about 2 weeks ago
* He is currently shedding

IF he seems to have a lung infection I would need to find a place to take him and know what it will cost so I can do what I can to save him, he is very well taken care of. He goes to the restroom daily, eats his veggies, has his crickets, and also has the exact right heat and UVB.

IF ANY one can tell me why he is breathing with his mouth wide open, and things it may be other than his lungs- please help =)

Here he is in a youtube video breathing last night, and keep in mind he will do this out of the light as well.

Can you post his temps. and what bulbs you are using please, even though you said they are perfect? It may be over-all too warm. He could have a respiratory infection, but that's more like a bit of gasping , sometimes even audibly. I've read the certain types of parasite infections can also cause open mouth breathing. But the first thing to check is the heat. Does he drink much ?

He has a 10.00 uvb and a 75 heat source - his temps reach 90 - 100 .

He has a bath once a week and eats his lettuce which has water

He does not have wheezing, but one thing that does worry me is the fact my brother just had a dying uromastyx here who we think had parasytes . WE did our best to keep all germs away but there is always the small chance something could happen

if its a parasite what do I Do?

For suspected parasites, you would take a fecal sample to a vet to determine what type of parasites. It really needs to be an experienced reptile vet, as some vets who do not specialize may still look at your beardie but actually do more harm than good. I think it's just kind of hot possibly. Do you have a cool end of the cage ? There HAS to be an area that is below 84 degrees in the cage. Also, it's good that your little dragon will accept lettuce, but it needs turnip, mustard and other greens rather than lettuce. Lettuce doesn't have nutritional value. Don't use spinach either.

Hello,

How did the vet visit go for you, what was determined?
How is your dragon doing this evening?
Do you know what the humidity is in the tank? What type of thermometer are you using, a digital probe, a temp gun or a round stick on type of thermometer?

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
