Heating Pad+ Dubias?

Hello everyone, I wanted a cheap heating pad for my dubia bin, and I saw someone said to use this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IV4N/ref=sr_ph_1_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1474299803&sr=sr-1&keywords=sunbeam+heating+pad, so I did. The thing is though, it does not seem to change the temperature in my tub at ALL. It was 73º when I checked it, and after turning on the pad and letting it sit for about an hour, the temps had not changed! The heating pad seems to work fine, but what am I doing wrong?

Should I put it in the tub?

You can, just place it on the wall and not the floor (that way the roaches dont accidentally get cooked if there is a kink in the wiring.

An under tank heater has the benifit of adhesive on the device. For that one you may be able to use foil tape, make sure to leave space for air to circulate to remove built up heat (don't pin it under the tank for example.) Don't be too disappointed though if it doesn't do much to raise temps - heat mats work at very close range and mostly though direct contact.

I wouldn't put it in the tank, wouldn't trust the buggies my to chew on it.

I read and bought and did everything the same as you and ended up with the same results.
So I have the heating pad on medium on the bottom and a ceramic heat emitter over the top.

Temp maxes at 86°

Okay, thank you all. I took off the blue cover thing and it works much better. The blue felt cover thing was blocking most of the heat, and my temps went up to about 80º

Tell me how that goes. I was afraid of it being too hot.

It seems to work. It raised the temp about 10º
