Heat Lamp Life...

My heat lamp for the Tikster has died. FEH. It irritates me greatly. It was TWO MONTHS OLD. And now it is dead. Which is probably a sign - I need a CHE anyway for winter so the infrared won't keep her awake.

Is two months the normal life for a heat lamp?? This is monetarily annoying - and I don't like it.

How long do your heat lamps last?

Oh - so I don't have to edit (I have a bad tendency to forget many things - like details) the fixture is more than capable to handle the 75 watts the bulb produces. It's on when she wakes up (sometimes I'll shut if off and just leave her basking lamp on during the day should it get too warm). I have yet to leave it on overnight because it's not cold at ALL here yet.

Now that I've said that it'll snow tomorrow............

mines died the other day also and it's been almost 2 months as well

i keep mines on for 12 hours a day

Is it a reptile basking bulb? Sometimes they do seem to have a short life span - I usually dont but them and just use the normal household spot lamp bulbs - one like this http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/light-bulbs/tesco-60w-r80-spotlight-light-bulb-es-4-pack.asp They cost a lot less and seem to last a good while longer.... I put Huffs bulb in at Easter and it just went 3 days ago. Phoebe has had the same light in her viv for almost 6 months!

She has a specific "basking bulb", and then an infrared heating lamp. The latter is what died.

So... two months, eh? Dragons are expensive! But I don't care, I love her.

yeah I was having the same issues....I need a 150watt spot lamp to heat my tank sufficiently (it's very tall) and I cannot seem to find a 150w household spot lamp in my town...So until I finish his custom viv reptile lights it is.

I found the ZooMed basking light lasts longer than the exo terra.

I was actually going to say this lol! I use an exo terra night light (yes, I know, its very bad to use a night light but CHE's are impossible to find over here and the ones that they do sell, arent worth the money as they completely fall apart!) and it tends to have a very short life.... I use a zoo med basking light in Kazi's viv as I needed a 75w and couldnt find a normal one and it seems to have lasted a lot longer than the exoterras do

At least I'm not alone in this. I'll probably grab a CHE at some point this week, I know Petsmart has a CHE bulb.

your still going to use a basking light that gives off light correct? just wanted to make sure, the CHE is for night time use when temp drops below 68 degrees.

Of course, Kalyn! Not to fear. She's a happy little basker. I just lost the infrared heat lamp. I stuck in a normal light bulb to help her hot side get just a teeny tiny bit warmer for better superworm digestion - I just bought her her first round.

And I got worried - it's gotten down to 57 at night here already, but the house and her house stays around... oh... 72-75 during those overnights. It's Asheville, NO ONE knows what on earth the weather is going to do, least of all me.
