hey everyone
i was thinking
with summer coming my house gets really hot
are AC works but barely plus my room gets real hot with my comp and whatnot
anyway when the temps get high in my room which they do (i dread it already)
do i get a smaller basking bulb for my enclosure or sit a tiny fan on top of the cool side screen and point it in to get some circulation
i dont want my beardie to roast
plus if the cool side gets too hot how do i drop the temp
she is in a custom enclosure that is 4ft long so i cant just move it to a cooler room

this is my first summer with my lil girl and im curious what other beardie lovers do in the summer :?

Helo,

Yes, as you mentioned, you would just need to get a smaller watt bulb. I would not reccomend pointing a fan into the viv, that will make your temps fluctuate too much.Get a smaller watt bulb and adjust as needed!
Hope this helps,

Dawn :D

What Dawn said...lol
I switch from 100 watt bulbs to 60 to start with, and if it gets real hot I have dropped to 40 watt. Just make sure your basking spot stays where its supposed to be at.

I agree with Dawn also...besides beardies...well at least my beardies do not like wind not even if it is coming from a fan. When it gets really hot here in California I use one of those energy efficient bulbs they put out very little heat if any at all.

The temps and humidity in your house have a strong impact on what the levels will be in the viv. So, as long as the humidity is low in your home and there is no standing water in the viv, you should be fine.

Dawn is correct!...and she lives where it is humid. I found even in California where it is dry I still needed to remove the water dishes because the heat of the bulbs will cause it to evaporate which is createing humidity.
Acceptable humidity levels for beardies is....30ish% to about 50% I would suggest never letting it get above 50% as this can cause a respiritory infection if above 50% for prolonged periods of time.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
