Crack was out in the garden yesterday like usual and he was eating the clovers and pansies just nicely. Then a gust of wind decided to blow a piece of cello wrap/plastic wrap right onto the ground in front of him. Well before I could even react, he hunted it and gobbled it right up! It wasn't as big as his head, but he did need three chews to get it down. I tried to wrestle it out of his mouth but was too late.
He seems fine today and continued munching on his greens in the garden yesterday too.
Is it an impaction hazard or might he pass it out?
He also feels the need to eat anything off the ground in the garden including little stones, twigs, and white pieces of fertilizer from the plants when they were first planted - I guess the worms push them up through the soil at night... He's had a few of each of those things over the past few weeks, of course each time he grabs one I end his garden session for the day and discuss with him the hazards of eating things he cannot possibly pass out. However, his bowel movements have been normal and he eats normally even after a little rock.
Is this normal for them to eat things like this in the wild do you think? What good could it possibly do? What harm if he eats too much and how much is too much? These things are tiny, no bigger than his eye, but still, they're not edible things!
Do I scrap the garden eating altogether even though he won't eat greens at all offered inside his tank or outside, only if he can hunt them himself after spending 10-15 mins in the sun relaxing... what other options do I have? I can't possibly get every little thing out of the garden each day before putting him in it, and it's not like I can say eat these plants only, he wanders around and chooses which ones to munch on, a taste here & there then eats a whole plant up.
Any ideas on the plastic wrap piece he ate? Anything I can do to help him poop it out?
