having a problem keeping the heat in the tank

So I have a CHE and the uvb light but for some reason the heat always escapes I dont have a cage top on cause i noticed from the tank I got with my beardie that it has burn holes from the lights. I tried using a pillow ontop of the tank but it always fell and I tried using the blanket but Im afraid of getting too hot and burning my house down... :? Any suggestions?

I assume we are talking about a glass aquarium enclosure with a screen lid?
How is your tank set up?

yes we are lol. I have the CHE in a clamp lamp and the UVB sits diagonally on top of the tank. I tried mounting the UVB fixture inside but I coundlt get it to stay.

As far as the basking light and CHE, you can use the clamp lamps and keep them on one side. Or buy an actual metal screen lid to put over the tank. Either way, you can get some foam insulation at most hardware stores. Cut it to cover most of the tank lid (minus the area the lights are taking up) and sit it in snugly. This will help keep the heat inside. You can also line 3 sides of the aquarium with this insulation and it will help tremendously holding the heat in.
