Have you ever had lighting issues?

Great news everybody! It's so cool that something as simple as a light bulb could make that much difference...

I started out with some type of fluker full spectrum and he grew for a bit ate normal
then he didn't shed for a while. hes 5 months and 13inches I don't know if hes on track and it kind of look likes his tail has a little kink. Now I've switched to a reptisun 1.0 the expensive one and he shed within the first 2 days and now his tail is starting again. I hope his growth isn't stunted I'd feel bad if I did anything to hinder his life. But hes strong and healthy now so I can't complain thanks to a light bulb weird

Great news that he's responding well to the R/S 10.0. And if it helps, our beardie was a mere 6 inches at five months, and now at 14-15 months is 17+ inches, very robust and healthy. At 13 inches, your beardie is not too terribly off the mark, and I'm sure you will see some great appetite and growth improvement over the coming months. Beardies have a wonderful way of bouncing back and making up for lost time (er, UVB :wink: ).

I'm very glad to see more people chiming in on this thread. I know there are many (upon MANY) of us who have been through this. When I was doing my research a year ago when beardie was struggling, it was the testimonial type posts that really convinced me that making lighting changes to his viv would actually make a difference (forgive me, I was still in a bit of denial, "why would the pet store sell bulbs that are dangerous to my pet?" :roll: ). I got all the right information and advice, but it was the threads that said things like, "I noticed a change within hours of changing the bulb" that helped me feel hopeful about his ever declining state. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. I too made a similar post "within hours" of changing his bulb. :mrgreen:

the uvb bulb has not come in yet, but it is ordered....
i did replace the two party bulbs i had with a bright white light and the temp in the tanks is a good 15 degrees warmer and i've noticed today that my beardie has been opening his eyes when i get close to the tank, but it seems like when he is basking he is still closing them, duno if that is normal or not? but when i get near him and handle him he is alert and watching everything, sooo very good sign!!! Thanks to everyone for the info and help, ill keep this updated if any further news

hey, an update!!
the two have been home for almost two months now and have been doing very well, adrian almost never has his eyes closed anymore, and the new bulb is working out great! its crazy how fast they grow!!

....those were the last two entries in my post explaining my experience, which has worked out great!

I originally bought a compact coil for my first beardie. Thankfully, I learned better before she ever arrived at my house.

Being too unorganized to have kept the receipt and too lazy to drive 40 miles to try to return the bulb, I decided to use it under our stove hood because during the winter my hubby keeps a few houseplants on the stove during the day and I thought the UVB would be good for the plants.

A week later, all the plants were dead. :shock:
