ok after lots of research i have just ordered a variation to crickets which is all my 6mth old beardies have ever had... i am their 4th owner and want them to have a good life with me and spoil them  so they have loads of yummy veg / fruit and every day i give them their staple and vary their treat - today was a strawberry (between 2).

I have ordered silk worms, calci worms x2 tubs, and small locusts - are all these ok to give as a staple instead of crickets for a little while, i am all out of crickets almost and once these arrive was hoping to give them a variation for a wk or 2...

Those are fine for staples, you don't have to feed crickets. I never feed crickets.

Those are not only fine for a variety but are excellent for replacing crickets all together. You may find that after a couple days of having yummy worms he'll ignore crickets when you try to offer them again.

oh i hope they dont go off crickets lol, theyre so much cheaper and i can get them just up the road whereas everything else is mail order!! Maybe nxt time ill have to order bigger batches, but i have to make sure they like them 1st otherwise ill waste loadsa money, those things arent cheap as youll all know!

Repti-worms - now i did a search for these but couldnt find a site for mail order, uk... just did a google search - are repti worms the same as calci worms (a type of phoenix worm)? - i think thats right

Yes 4 owners, - breeder, pet shop, previous owner for 3 mths and now me and lucky buggers have 5 owners here so no room to get bored!

I did try and get collard and mustard greens but couldnt find them in asdas!

Does anyone know how to look after the bugs i have got??? Is it ok to feed bug grub and gel to them all, and add some greenery / fruit too?

Doesn't look like even Waitrose has them. :( All I can find listed is "spring greens," but no information about what's in them. Is there a market anywhere near where you live, or a fresh greengrocer's? Or some of the other UK members might be able to advise you on what they buy, if greens are hard to find.

Sainsbury's always had acorn squash when we were looking for it, so that's at least one of the "staples" from the foods list you should be able to find. :)

Collard greens and spring greens are the same thing or so i've been told. I feed mine spring greens, wild rocket and watercress (all from asda because i work there and on that department so always get the freshest stuff off delivery lol 8)) Spring greens are on offer for 50p for two thingys in a bag at the moment too... always instore through the summer but i really struggled getting them over the winter from anywhere.

Oh and butternut squash grated for the beardies and use it as food for the bugs aswell :) usually give them a handful of the beardies greens too. I used bug gel once and the crix all died by next morning so just use cucumber/orange/butternut squash/mango/apple and anything like that for their water source now.

I also give the beardies basil, mint, parsley (curly and flat leaf) and sometimes coriander when the growing pots get reduced to sell quick. They last a good week or two and maybe longer now i can plant them outside through the summer :D Just dont give them sage!! Apparently its bad so i've steered clear.

Im still learning beardie things and the proper care but so far so good :blob5:

ReptiWorms and Phoenix Worms have similar nutritional contents and can be used as staples; however, CalciWorms (produced by the Timberline company) should not be used as staples, but rather, as supplements. CalciWorms have a much higher calcium content (more than is needed, and possibly more than could be fed on a daily, regular basis), and therefore have a greater disparity in their calcium to phosphorous ratios (suggested ratio is anywhere between 1:1 to 2:1, where ReptiWorms and Phoenix Worms fall close at 1.5-ish:1; CalciWorms come in at 3.28:1). You can even check on the website itself, where they state:

Although not intended to feed as a sole ration CalciWorms are premium feeder insects that are naturally high in calcium.
Here's the link: http://www.timberlinefisheries.com/products/feeder-insects/calciworms/

Therefore, I would not plan on switching to solely CalciWorms, though they can be used as a nice supplement or treat, along with the other two.

what i was thinking and correct me if im wrong, was alternating the locusts, calci worms and silk worms, so in other words calci worms would be every 4th feed possibly... also how do i look after the locusts and worms once i have them - bug grub and gel? with a bit of veg? I have got on well thus far with the gel, and bought 3 packs of crickets which lasted the wk phew...

Am I thinking the same as some of the above comments when it comes to mustard greens? I'm thinking of the easy-peasy ones that you can grow in a lil plastic tub with some soggy cotton wool on the bottom. Looks like cress, even though it's not.....
And if I am thinking of something entirely different, can you feed BD's that kind of mustards? And/or cress?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
