Back in Mid-October I believe it was, Zeke began to prepare for his first brumation. He slowed down significantly and was staying in the cooler portion of the tank, napping off and on. However, he still seemed to have a bit of an appetite for salads, but went off his feeders entirely. I noticed that he went several days without a poo and took him to the vet. The vet, who I have very little trust in, said that he probably had parasites and put him on a three day regimine of medication. This did absolutely nothing, but a little bit of pumpkin seemed to get him to poo a small amount for a few days. Seeing as how he was almost entirely off his food by that point, I figured the poo size was about right. He pooped one last time before going to sleep.
Then, in late December, Zeke was up for about two weeks. This time he was uninterested in his salads, except where mango was involved, and stuck to a few dubia every day. Within about three days there had been no poo. Again I tried pumpkin and this time it took much longer to get him to pass a stool. When he finally did, a very hard urate came out. I found out I had been putting too much calcium on his food and adjusted the dose. For the rest of those two weeks he didn't eat and didn't poo.
He woke up again about a week and half ago and this time he seems to really be awake. However, he has refused almost all food since waking up. Upon feeling his stomach I noticed that he was REALLY backed up. I gave him some pumpkin with oil and after 45 minutes of struggling in the bath, he finally got himself moving again. There was just a small portion of hard urate and lots of poop. Everything in the poop seemed digested-- just stuck. After pooing his color lightened significantly and he seemed rather happy, if that makes sense. :?: Is it possible this urate was left over from last time? He hadn't eaten since he passed the one in December, so I don't know how it could have been calcium again. If not, what else could be causing the hard urates?
Also, he seems to have lost a significant amount of weight since his battle with constipation started. When feeling his stomach it still feels like he's got some poo in him, but nothing like before. :?: How do I go about feeding him? Should I stick with soft food until he finished passing what is inside him? How do I put weight back on the poor little guy?
