Hi! Every morning I spend time with Gizmo (my "fancy" beardie) and in the evening I spend time with Clay (the regular one)
A little off topic, but they are 4 months (thats what the lady at PetSmart told me) and I've had them for 3 weeks! They've already grown closer to me and they don't get alarmed when I stroke them in their cage, AND Gizmo doesn't jump out of my hands anymore! I take this as a good sign lol.
Clay usually turns into a sandy gold color with orange splotches when I hold him, but... Gizmo doesn't change at all? Is it because she is a leatherback? Or am I doing something wrong?
She has no stress marks (and if she does, they are VERY faint, I can barely see them) and just likes to lay on my knee while I drink my coffee. And enjoy some stroking on her neck, she loves that.
Even outside, no change. I let them occasionally run around the house while my dog is locked up.. But nothing seems to make Gizmo want to change her colors. She has started shedding on her face area, and even shed inside her nostrils. (I previously thought that her heavy breathing was from stress or possibly a URI, but once that shed skin came out, she hasn't breathed heavy AT ALL!) I read that beardies can do that. Is there something wrong with her? Her basking area is at a stable 103-105F, and her UVB area is about 87? somewhere around that. I'm planning on getting a tube Reptisun 10.0 lamp that sits on the side of their tank, as she has a coil UVB lamp right now, and I don't want her to experience health effects from it, as I read that some can actually become sick or stressed from those bulbs. She seems happy, and doesn't move away from my touch and even lifts her head to show her neck, as if to say "HEY! Keep petting me!"
I'm just assuming, but she hasn't shown signs of stress?
Please help. I only want the best for my babies (I'm a new reptile owner, and I'm VERY careful and gentle with them, like they're made of paper.)
Thanks!
